I first met Ciaran when I was an undergraduate student in DIT. He was a jovial Ph.D. student who was incredibly generous with both his time and knowledge, as well as patient (essential when helping students!). Later, he went out of his way to chat with me about careers in food research. Sadly, I never got to know Ciaran away from academic circles, but I could tell he was a larger than life character who loved life and didn't take himself too seriously.
Thanks for all of your kindness and help, Ciaran. You and yours are in my thoughts.

My deepest condolences to all of Ciaran's family and friends. I knew Ciaran in his capacity as a PhD student at Teagasc. Ciaran was a smart intelligent, articulate and and above all decent young man. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing.
I would like to express my deepest sympathy to Ciaran's wife and family, you are all in our thoughts and prayers. The Ciaran that we all knew in Teagasc can only be described as a gentle giant, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him
Wonderful Ciaran and his family, whatever words one will write or say, will not ease the pain this very day.
However, time and pray heals, for there is nothing more powerful than prayer, the ultimate power that works when all else fails.
Your all in my prayers, as you are in the prayers of so many, all praying and wishing you all the best, as you face this the ultimate test, God bless you all, Dennis
