Sincere sympathy to Brian and the entire Walsh family on the passing of Claire. Happy memories of local competitions in this area in the late 'sixties when she lived in Sligo and of the 1972 Munich Olympic as well as the 1974 Rome European Championships Team where, on both occasions, I was team coach.. Claire made a unique contribution to Irish Athletics and particularly to the Womens' section during it's early days. She was a wonderful ambassador for the sport of Athletics. May her gentle soul rest in peace!

My sincere condolences, Claire will be remembered as a Irish Olympian who was extremely understated about her athletic achievements.

So sorry to learn of Claire's passing. She was an inspiration to us all in Clonliffe Harriers and she will never be forgotten.

We have just heard with deep sadness of the passing of Claire. She was, she was indeed a pioneer and champion of women’s athletics in Ireland during the ‘dark ages’. One cannot underestimate the dedication and single-mindedness that it took for Claire to succeed as she did. She was indeed a beacon for others to follow. Thank you Claire and may she rest in peace.

Whether schooling a horse, parking on the proverbial sixpence or accounting for a 'district' in JG long ago, Claire was one of the most efficient people I ever knew: she was also one of the kindest. I’m so saddened to learn of Claire’s passing. Sincere condolences to the Walsh family. Claire was one of Ireland’s most iconic athletes in her day. Her graceful running style, true grit & determination to win multiple championships was an inspiration to me, and many young aspiring athletes in the ‘70s. RIP Claire.

May we extend our deepest sympathies to all of Claire’s family but especially to her sister Anne. May Claire rest peacefully after a very fulfilled life.
