What is there to say at the tragic news of Clare’s passing? She was such a beautiful, witty, kind, passionate person. She touched and brightened many lives. I am proud to have called her my friend. Five minutes in Clare’s company made you want to change the world; an hour in her company made you feel you could. She was the gentlest soul one could meet and a champion for those who sought comfort, refuge and justice while all the time doing so with grace, courage, kindness and good humour. She possessed such a wonderful musical talent which she freely shared with others. She had a fantastic view of the world and sought to improve it for all. She had a great sense of humour and a wonderful sense of fun. And such a dreamer – in the best way! She was fiercely proud of her family, her friends and her heritage while still being a child of the world. The memories and the conversations and the laughter will stay with me. Cups of tea by the river will never be the same.
My heartfelt condolences to all the McHugh family and all those who knew and loved Clare at such a tragic loss of such a wonderful sister, niece, aunt and friend. May her gentle soul rest in peace. Solas na bhflaitheas agus leaba i measc na naomh di. Those we hold closely in our hearts never truly leave us. Her spirit will continue to inspire us who knew her.
Rest in peace, my friend. We shall carry you in our hearts.
