As for many other Cork institutions, Clayton was a loyal member and supporter of the Society, and proud to posses a rare full set of our journal dating back to 1891. His warm engaging presence at our events will be missed.

Deepest condolences to Clayton's family, on behalf of all volunteers at Water Safety Ireland. Many of our members enjoyed the pleasure of his company, expertise and guidance over the years and it is with great fondness that we recall Clayton being presented with Water Safety Ireland's Life Governor Award in 2004 when he was serving as Deputy Chairman of the RNLI. The Award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated a particular dedication towards the humanitarian goal of saving life from drowning - and so very well deserved it was. I will always remember Clayton as a true gentleman, kind to all he met, always open to listen to others and full of sensible advice delivered with a sense of humour. His contribution to the RNLI was immense in Ireland and the United Kingdom over a long period for which we have been incredibly fortunate.

Clayton was a pioneer for business and commerce in Cork, his ambitions were a big part of shaping Cork's commercial development. Crosshaven Lifeboat Station are saddened to hear of the passing of Clayton Love Jnr, RNLI Vice President and RNLI Council member.

Clayton Love Jnr and his Family bequeathed the first permanent lifeboat, an Atlantic 75 named fittingly, "Miss Betty" after his wife. "Miss Betty" remained at Crosshaven from 2002 until 2016.

Clayton Love was a kind, considerate and unfailingly generous man. Over the more than 50 years I knew him, his good humour and dry wit enlivened all of our meetings. His huge physical presence was daunting to a young boy but he always focussed on the other person and found just the right words. For a man of so many gifts and accomplishments, he remained the same good and kind man who never changed his essence. I can only imagine the catch-up sessions up above with Liam, Des and his beloved Betty. My sincere sympathy to Barbara, Clayton, Sarah and Neil and my grateful thanks to you all for sharing him with me and the extended Traynor family.
