Col. (Retired) Seamus (Jim) Condon

I only knew Jim through swimming encounters at the Forty Foot a good many years ago. He must have been nearly eighty then, but his pace and vigour was still very evident. He was always an interesting and entertaining man to talk to, and I still recall some of his pithier observations. I'm sorry to learn of his decease, and extend my sympathy to all his family and friends.

To Andrew, Myriam and Bernice. Please accept my sincere condolences upon the death of your dear Father. While the World appears to have known him as 'Jim', over seventy years ago, in The O'Connell School (OCS), which we both attended and in his early years in the Army. I knew him as Se. I lived on Clonliffe Road, quite adjacent to Drumcondra Park and we were both avid patrons of the Gate Theatre, Toto Cogley's Studio Theatre Club and of the long since vanished Garrick, etc.
He was always a person of the most profound and admirable integrity, from which, during the course of a long and very successful career, it is apparent he clearly never wavered . There is a character in John Bunyan's ' The Pilgrim's Progress', ' Mr Standfast' : that was Se - the essence of 'soundness'. May he Rest in Peace.

Wonderful memories of our overseas service together In UNIFIL HQ Naqoura in 1984/85 and our family life in Naharija. Jim was great colleague always concerned for the welfare of those under his command. May his gentle soul rest in well deserved peace alongside his beloved Veronica.
