Colin Caffrey

I only heard today 24th October that sadly Colin had died.I had the pleasure of working with Colin untill my retirement in Tallaght hospital in 2016, may I say a nicer man you couldnt meet ,always so cheerful and a smile for everyone.My sincere condolences to his family who I met in Thomas Davies club in the spring for your great loss.

His lovely smile and personality.He would light up your day in Tallaght Hospital. He treated all the staff so well. He can never ever be replaced. I have lovely memories working with Colin over the yrs in the Hospital. I am heartbroken on his very sad death. So glad I was able to attend his lovely funeral Mass in Ballbriggan and meet his parents and two of his sisters.He always told me I was his favourite Nurse. I am praying for ye at this very sad time. I worked with Colin at Motorola, always making people laugh and smile, always upbeat. Was easily the funniest person I knew and anytime someone says I'm funny I think of Colin because for me he was the funniest person I know. I will miss him.

Was a pleasure getting to know Colin at Balbriggan table tennis club the last 3 or 4 years with myself playing table tennis with his father Tommy in the league & Colin was our biggest supporter. & had some training sessions with him also an absolute gentleman who always had a smile despite his illness. I was so sorry to hear of Colin's passing. I was so lucky to meet up with him in his home in Market Green last year. We had a great laugh about working in Butlins in Tommys shop and the number of times he bet me at table tennis. My condolences to Tommy, Eileen and sisters. May he rest in peace.

So, so sorry to hear of Collie's passing. I had the great privilege of working with this man for many years at TUH. Kind, decent and generous to a fault. Not to mention a wicked sense of humour. A true gentleman in every sense of the word. If you decided to pull a 'sicky' on a Monday, you prayed that Collie was the one to answer the phone at 7.30. " Ah sorry to hear that, Mike. You just put your legs up and relax. Sure we'll see you whenever". That was Collie. No fuss, no panic. The world is a lesser place without his presence. RIP gentle soul.

Fond memories of Colin from Balrothery N.S. and the few occasions we met since then. Aside from his soccer skills my main memory is a 6th class discussion on the Netherlands when we were asked what the main sports there were. Colin enthusiastically piped up “table tennis!” to be greeted by a collective but affectionate class eye-roll and groan; with his desk-mate Paul White earning a stern reprimand from Mr. K for his over-zealous reaction, “Ah my Jaysus, effing table-tennis!" . Simpler times, but reading the comments here its clear Colin managed to maintain his sense of wonder and enthusiasm for everything and everyone. What a gift! Condolences to all his family, especially his 2 children, on your very sad loss. Rest in peace Colin.
