I have fond memories of being driven around the country in the late sixties and early seventies by Colum in his VW Beetle with others from the Ennis Boxing Club from one tournament to another. Formative years made possible by Colum’s generosity and vision. I’m just one of many who owe him so much. RIP

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Colm Flynn. Since the 1960’s
Colm was part of the texture of Ennis through the Post Officd, the boxing and the G.A.A.

My first memory of Colm goes much further back, to 1955. When I was 7 years of age, I got meningitis and was sent over to the old Fever hospital where I was in isolation. One day, as I was recovering, I was out in the grounds and look down over the wall to a huge garden next door. It was the home of the Flynn family. Two older boys were playing football near an orchard. They came over and we started chatting. They were Colm and I think his brother Paddy. Every day I would go to the wall and they would give me apples and copies of the comics of the time “The Dandy” and “The Beano”.

A good friend to my father, since he was new in the town 40 years ago (they bonded over my dads father-in-law and Colum being part of the same Galway management in the 80s (of course they did). The volumes of people who paid their respects last night, and today from all walks of life and different corners of sport, and life, speak volumes of the man. A real-life legend. Colum Flynn was in my corner the night i won my first fight .We had a boxing club in Kilkishen not many members.
1969 or 70. Colum asked too of us to go to Loughrea Galway as they needed too boxers for the tourment.The
confidence Colum gave me to win that fight talk about Clare getting out of munster in 95 this meant more to me.
That confidance gave me great belief as life went on thanks to Colum Flynn.Beautiful memories will help is lovely wife
and family and extended family get through this diffucult time. may Colum gentle soul rest in peace.

Colum was such a remarkable man. He had a way of lifting your spirits simply by being in his company, and anyone who met him was the better for it. His kindness, warmth, and gentle presence will be remembered by all of us who were lucky enough to know him.

Deepest sympathy to Kay and all the family on the passing of Colum from this world, a world he loved. Had bumped into Kay at the Tesco Shopping Centre a few weeks back and Kay advised that Colum was unwell. I was very sorry to hear that as over the years I had got to know Colum rather well. Years back in my Football days, Colum was the person to go to with any injuries you might have. You would call to the house and there was always Sportspeople from Galway, Limerick and Clare as well as others in need of attention. They all knew that Colum was a most experienced Physio and if anyone was to get you sorted, it was Colum. Later, when I took on the challenge of running some Marathons in the early 80s, Colum again came to my aid when I experienced some disc issues in my back. Looking back now, Colum helped so many people over the years and he did it with such kindness. In more recent times, Colum was a great supporter of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland " Burren Walk " in Fanore. We all know that Kay and her County Committee helped Gerry Howard and I with the catering,etc., and without their help it would not have been the Fundraising success that it was for all of 17 years. Colum used love to help out and also walk up the mountain and interact with others on the way. He was so well known to all. May Colum's Gentle Soul now Rest in Peace. Amen.
