My deepest condolences to Ena, Aislinn and Peter. Distantly related via the Kelly family I only met Traolach and Ena last year when they came to see us . He left a deep impression on us and we could have talked for days. A lovely man, may he rest in peace and enjoy eternity in heaven.

I only realised that Traolach had died when I saw the photo of his funeral in Derrynane in the paper yesterday. I last met him when he came to my brother Barry’s memorial mass in Dublin two years ago.

We all met in Newbridge College in the sixties and I remember him fondly.

Traolach Sweeney was hugely helpful and kind to my son, Simon. He took him subaqua diving and encouraged him, in the kindest and most understanding of ways, at a time when Simon badly needed encouragement.

I am rarely lost for words! But hearing this tragic news has left me without the comfort of either word or thought. Traolach was my best friend when we were at school in Newbridge College. He was a day boy, and I was a boarder! He was the only person I trusted at that difficult time of my life. I looked forward each day to his smiling face coming through the classroom door. He was the wind beneath my wings!

After school our paths separated, not just in careers, he to the Army and Geology and I to Hotel Management, but also by location as I married and travelled to South Africa. We kept in touch for a long time, and I knew when he married Ena and eventually had a daughter Aislinn, however, our communications stopped there! Yet, he was never far from my thoughts no matter what part of the world my work took me to. My sincerest sympathy and love go unreservedly to his wife Ena and daughter Aislinn and son Peter. It would be my most precious wish to meet with you one day and share the warmth of hugs and memories. It will take me a very long time to get over this tragedy! Love and friendship never really die, like good wine they mature with the passing years!

We just watched the livestream of Traolach’s funeral mass from the USA. What a lovely service! We especially appreciated learning more about Traolach from the tributes of his family and friends. We extend sincere sympathies to all the family. Our extended family of 18 persons was on holiday last week, staying at Westcove. We saw the scene of the accident at the end of our driveway as we left for dinner at 6 pm. Our return to Westcove after dinner was challenging since the road was closed. We talked to several firefighters and police officers on the scene and learned a man died. We’ve been praying for him and the family all week. Thanks to the Internet for our ability to “meet” you. God bless you.
