Con O'Leary

So sorry to hear of Con’s passing – I remember covering South Health Board meetings back in the 1990s where he was a tireless and tenacious advocate for a better health service, and he did it with great wit and humour.

I remember him once asking SHB Management to write to the EU to see if Junior Hospital Doctors could be fitted with tachographs to limit the crazy hours they were working- “Alternatively, they could come with a government health warning – Exhausted doctors can damage your health.”

There are so many stories but behind them all, a serious commitment to his community – he was a like a terrier when he got his teeth into an issue – he didn’t let go until he got an independent inquiry into substandard nursing home care in Cork.

Again, my sympathies to you all on your sad loss.

I was very sad to hear of Con's passing. We have known each other for years and everytime we met we left with a smile at one of his stories about the things he would get up to. Con was a great character who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Sad to hear of con passing growing up in mount nebo con was a great organiser as even as a teenager including bonfire night when he would be in charge ofthe rasa. I was a member of the first youth club he started and have us helping the elderly on Saturdays cleaning and digging gardens.i later him met in a official capacity in city hall in the 90s and he didn’t know me until I told him the number of the house where I used to live and like all politicians he knew me straight away.Rest easy con.

Con was a local legend and such a funny uncle when I was growing up in Mount Nebo as a child. The many memories I have of Con are priceless and especially the holiday my family spent with Con, Ann and their family in Kerry will always be treasured. Heaven is a much happier place now Con. 💕

I am so very sorry to hear of Connie's passing,our friendship goes back many year's even before con's shop,when he and Ann lived in byfield park,Con always worked hard for Gurrane,When he started St Another's youth club and the boys and girls did great work for elderly people.Con often came to our meetings,and when Con wanted something for the youth club he always got it how could anyone refuse his face especially when he looked sad 😔. On behalf of the board of directors oversight committee and volunteers we would like to express our deepest sympathies and condolences to Deborah, Tina, Lorraine, Ashling, and the extended O’ Leary. Family on the passing of Con a devoted father and grandfather may he rest in peace. Con O Leary was a icon in our community in Gurranabraher for over sixty years starting as a volunteer in the youth club and also helping out with the sick poor society in the area. This was the start of a lifetime of service to the community’ and politics severing on cork city council for over eleven years.
Con joined the board of the credit union in 1999 when we were going through a very challenging period. It was a time for a strong leadership team to work together, Con severed as Chairman during this period. We are convinced that if it were not for Con and the board at that time our credit union would not be what it is today.Thank you for your service Con you will always be remembered in this place, Rest in Peace.
