My sincere condolences to the whole Rooney family for your terrible loss. I served with Gunner / Driver Con Rooney in the 2nd Field Artillery Regiment in McKee Barracks from the early 1970s, despite the very bad pay and conditions we had to endure, we soldiered on, helped immensely by Con’s buoyant, irrepressible character. He was great craic altogether and always lifted our humour. I can’t believe his departure is so close to CQMS Martin O’Rourke and Regt Sgt Major John Wall who served with us.

I was very sad to hear the news of Con's passing. Many the afternoon I spent with him looking at his old photos and listening to him talk about you all, whom he loved dearly. When my own Dad was terminal, he would call me to enquire about him, I will miss him in Castlekevin, may he rest in eternal peace.
