It was with a sad heart that we read of the passing of Conor. Eileen, Kathleen, Maire and l recall our summer holidays in Blackrock around the Crescent and the Connolly family were an integral part of our childhood in the Rock. I was best friends with Conor in the Marist Dundalk from say 5 to 8
The other children were queuing to be friends with Conor . I was eventually bumped.
Conor had comics, sherbet sweets, had seen the movie The planet of the apes ( or had an account from a sister or brother) and was good at explaining it and he had a telescope .
We played planet of the apes for weeks on end at Loaker lodge. Conor had lovely warm parents and kind older sisters and brothers( each a star rugby player like Conor in time)( we got a cigarette or two from somewhere- Aideen prime suspect)
Years later at Castleknock he generously showed me a technique for striking against the head. We were competing for the same place on the team. Always generous, fair and loyal!
As shoe companies disappeared from nearly all of Europe Conor was innovative. He kept adapting.
I am wearing blackthorn shoes today
