I knew Conor right from the start of my academic career, first as one of my thesis examiners and later as an external examiner. Throughout, he was always helpful, quick in response, approachable and positive. He was brilliant in unexpected ways: I have never seen anyone analyse mark sheets and identify anomalies so acutely. The result was often a convincing argument for an upgrade in degree classification. There are tens of law graduates who will never know the service that Conor did them. I last met him by chance around Christmas time in a café in Lincoln’s Inn Fields, near the LSE. He was his usual cheerful self and pleased to talk to my daughter about her studies. As with all of these sudden deaths, one regrets not having thanked him.
