I only knew Cora for a short time but it didn't take long to know what a lovely lady she was. It was obvious that she enjoyed her bowls but she also loved our social nights when, with her lovely voice, she would treat us to a song or two from one of the old Operettas or Musicals.
Rest in peace, Cora.

Cora was an outstanding auntie to me when I was growing up in Cork in the 1940s and 1950s and she brought joy to my life in ways too numerous to mention. One thing, however, is etched in my memory, and that is how she would cycle across the city from Turners Cross to Blackpool on Easter Saturday to deliver the Easter eggs that we would otherwise not have had. It would often be after nightfall when she would arrive and we would be waiting and watching out for the light of her approaching bicycle. Cora was an excellent cook and baker from an early age, and I would enjoy the delightful results of her enthusiastic work on my visits to my grandparents on a Sunday. As the years rolled on we met only occasionally because I lived so far away, but I did get the opportunity to tell her how good she was and that she was appreciated and loved. I have always kept a place in my heart for Cora and treasure the photographs of her that I have, and I am saddened by her passing. Cora was the last of a generation. Her father, Michael John Kenneally, was a veteran of the War of Independence and so was her mother, May, nee Brennan, as a member of Cumann na mBan. She was the last of a fairly large number of children to be born in the household and the last to depart. Rest in peace Auntie Cora.
