Our Deepest Condolences to Con’s sister Maureen (Maura) Byrne (nee White) in Callan, Kilkenny (formally of Castlepark like Con + their Family), extended Family’s, neighbours relatives, his friends in Kilcoe & Baurleigh. May Con Rest in Peace.
My parents Dan & Mary O’ Leary (nee Bowen) and my siblings Ruth, Martin (RIP) & Patrick would have been neighbours of the White Family in Castlepark before they left the area which I very much recall. I am in fairly regularly in touch with Con’s sister Maureen (Maura) in Kilkenny as she likes to read The Courcey Chronicle which I edit when it comes out but hadn’t heard of Con’s passing (RIP). Maureen along with her Daughter Maria & Family were at the Ringrone NS reunion in the Speckled Door, Old Head in April 2019 where we chatted for a good part of the afternoon. I heard news of Con then and prior to that & since from a friend of ours John O’ Brien, Old Court, Ballinspittle who used to meet Con at Bandon Mart & from Maureen too of course. Great reflections on Con’s life & times along with the rest of the Family from Terence Dineen below. Well done to Con’s neighbours & friends for looking after him during his time of need and always being there for him.
Cally, John & Family.

Con liked a joke, enjoyed life and everyone appreciated his affable nature.
Some health issues bothered him - tinnitus and inability to see print and latterly TV. A serious enough prostate problem was fixed ten years back.
Recently one shoulder troubled him greatly. For a scan some months ago I took him on a 'road trip' to Bantry hospital and we called to Kilcoe on the way home; we visited the home place and the cemetary by the sea, where his mother and uncle are buried. That was a good day - some stories not to be repeated!
To conclude serious thanks to Timmy Hurley of Baurleigh Con's closest and best carer. And, in the days before he died, what Tony and Sean O Mahonydid for his care and comfort was outstanding. Also to be commended bigtime was his surrogate family - Billy Cahalane and his 'girls' - he loved them and they loved him.

I was a previous owner of Con's farm, which I sold in 1974, and Con bought in 1991, moving there from Kilcoe near Ballydehob. He was born near Kinsale; while a teenager his brother died of leukaemia at 21 and his father of a heart attack six months later. Con's mother sold the place and went to live with her brother in Kilcoe, while Con and his sister Maura moved to Newport in Wales. After 12/13 years Maura married a man from Kilkenny and they moved back to Callan where they reared 4 children.
Con's job was operating heavy machinery - JCBs. diggers and bulldozers, work which took him to Birmingham, Scotland, London and back in Ireland Wicklow, Dungarvan and West Cork and lastly driving his own JCB for hire around Ballydehob. He lived in Kilcoe on a roughish farm until his uncle and then his mother died.
He wanted to come east to better land and bought Baurleigh, having sold west in two tranches. In the early days in Baurleigh he was heavily stocked with up to 30 sucklers; in recent years his stock numbers dwindled but the animalskept getting bigger and bigger, often approaching 900/1000 kg livewt. These suited his character and lifestyle which was easygoing and relaxed. He liked a joke, enjoyed life and all liked his affable and occasionally blunt approach to life.
