Starting a school hockey team we (ahem) had an 11 /0 defeat in the senior league. Daunt kindly said he would come to MMC for a week to coach us and he stayed a lifetime.
How privileged we were to have Daunt.
His enthusiasm, his love of the game, his stories , his genuine interest in each and every person enriched all of our lives . He was always in our corner . In later years there was not a missed chance , foul tackle or match he could not relive .
It was a honour knowing him

My sincere condolences to all the Daunt family. Mr. Daunt had a hugely positive influence on my life, and it’s abundantly clear from reading the many beautiful messages here, he has had such an impact on so many young lives. He had a wonderful way of making us all feel special and giving players at all levels equal time and encouragement. His is the one name that comes up frequently in conversation when I make and renew connections with people, such is the impact he had on all of us. I can still hear him shouting “great ball!” and you would grow a foot taller on the pitch with the feeling of it! Rest in peace Mr. Daunt – your contribution is immeasurable.
My sympathies to all the Daunt family. I have very fond memories of Cyril from his involvement with hockey in MMC. He was one of life's true gentlemen and was an inspirational figure to so many of our students. His legacy lives on in all those that he infuenced and inspired.

Our sincere condolences to Tania, Sandra and all the Daunt family. May your lovely dad rest in peace.
So very sorry to hear of the passing of Mr Daunt.
My sympathies to all his family and friends.
Wow, there are not enough words to express his influence on my love of sport.
What an absolute legend.
What an amazing ambassador for hockey in Cork, Munster and Ireland.
And what an all around lovely gentleman.
And Glynn and Shane were also credit to him and we all loved having them helping out.
I have so many years of happy memories with Daunt especially during my MMC days.
And as a result of his influence I have life long friends from back then.
With him we learnt how to win and how to lose(rarely!!😆).
We learnt how to be part of a team and we learnt how to respect the game.
We learnt how to be disciplined and commit to training and competing in all weathers. All done while having a ball!
You get knocked down, you fall, you miss a tackle but you get up and keep going.
All this learning and experience helped us all both on and off the pitch as schoolgirls and into adult life.
And of course the legendary bus trips and end of season 🎉 celebrations were always great fun.
Thanks Daunt so very much.
No doubt wherever you are now, you are still smiling and bringing joy to all.🌞🌞

"We are going to heaven on Daunts bus, 'cos Daunts bus is full of us" many happy memories of singing this when going to hockey matches and training with Cyril. May he rest in peace.
It was such a privilege to be coached and mentored by such a fine gentleman, always encouraging and supporting. Sometimes giving a lift out the road to Belvedere to the mixed 7-a-side Melena Cup, (which of course we kept winning with Glyn and Shane on the team!). He even sponsored a new hockey stick when times were tough!
I think of him as MY Mr Daunt. So, so many others must feel the same. Cyril and hockey gave me confidence and inspired my lifelong love of sport. THANK YOU!

So sorry to hear of the passing of the legend that Cyril was. May he rest in eternal peace. We first met Cyril when our daughter played with Loreto and even though he was with the opposition, he was always very encouraging to all players. Then he went on to take the Munster school girls to inter-pros and we got to see and appreciate some of his real talent as a mentor and not just a hockey coach. Rest in peace Cyril
Sincere condolences to the extended Daunt family on the loss of Cyril. I remember his great enthusiasm about his beautiful garden.
Deepest sympathy to the Daunt family. Cyril was a wonderful gentleman.
He was much loved by pupils in St. Multose N.S when he coached hockey there.
Always a smile and a cheerful word.

A wonderful man with a wonderful family. I remember the day the Daunts moved into Cedar Avenue. Within weeks we were playing hockey on the street. Young boys from Cedar Grove and Cedar Avenue who in later years would go on to represent Munster and even Ireland at all levels. Such a generous and warm man. May he rest in peace.
Our sincerest condolences to all the Daunt family on the very sad passing of Cyril, what a great man he was. Clare is waiting with open arms to greet you.
I am so sorry to see that Cyril has passed away and send my condolences to all the family. Many a hockey match I played with him in the 1960's for Harlequins and many an exciting bus journey!!

Our sincerest sympathies to the Daunt family on the passing of Cyril. Mr. Daunt was a remarkable man who first gave us all the hockey bug at Sunday morning hockey and later as pupils at Mount Mercy. Daunt had a wonderful belief in the potential of everyone and he fostered such a positive team atmosphere. Daunt's memory will always hold a special place our hearts. We have fun memories of training, team nights out and end of year BBQ’s. Thank you.
Rest in Peace.

I was so sad to hear about Cyril Daunt's passing. I will never ever forget him and will always be so grateful to him for starting me out on my Hockey journey.
I always say my best memories of hockey are of my MMC days – apart from winning Munster cups and Irish schools cup – it’s what happened outside of hockey too – the bus journeys driving in the fast lane! Being in class and hearing 'Daunt' outside squeaking along as he lined the pitch. Making us even more excited and nervous for the big game ahead!
He inspired SOOO many of us, of all different abilities, instilling skills, an absolute love for the sport and also lifelong friendships. ‘Daunt’ brought out the best in all of us.
My sincere condolences to the All Daunt family.

Sincere condolences to all the Daunt family on the passing of your fabulous dad Cyril. What a gentle, kind and talented man he was. He engendered such passion for the sport no matter how good or bad the team was and he certainly made hockey training the best part of secondary school. He will be fondly remembered by the hockey world past and present for many years to come. Rest in peace Mr Daunt.
I was very saddened to hear of Mr. Daunts passing. My deepest sympathies to all of his family, particularly Shane. His great life will be remembered , celebrated and appreciated over the coming days.
Mr Daunts impact on my life has been significant.
He inspired and encouraged a generation of us young girls in Mount Mercy to play hockey. He really was ahead of his time. He supported, included and inspired all of us to play and enjoy the game, while at the same time getting the wins! I had the utmost of respect for him.
He nurtured a love of hockey in me which allowed me to form life long friendships which I still value today. I am now on the sidelines watching how the next generation are being coached, I can honestly say there’s nobody like Mr Daunt.
Mr Daunt, thank you for giving me the opportunity to play hockey, you enabled me to have a very happy and healthy teenhood.
Team sport and friendships, the essence of happiness for all young girls. Thank you Mr Daunt, you will be very fondly remembered and appreciated x

Sincere sympathy to the Daunt family on the loss of their, and everyone’s, beloved Cyril. I first encountered Cyril while I was at school in Ursulines, Blackrock, in the 70’s. And while he never coached me, he always had a kind word to say, and a bit of advice to give! He was most generous with his time and always had a sense of humour too. May he rest in peace now.
Sincere condolences to the Daunt family.
I have fond memories of Cyril in the mid 1970’s playing with him and Leslie ,Ian, Glyn and Shane for Bishopstown HC.

I was so sad to hear of the passing of Mr Daunt. There are only a few people in your life that make a lasting impact and he is one of them. His dedication, commitment and love of hockey and the players was simply outstanding. I can still see him in his baseball cap and javelin jacket, gritting the pitch and lining up the cones before training and I can still hear his great, inspiring words in his posh little voice from the sideline. Win, lose or draw he was so proud of us. A legend of a man and forever remembered by me and so many.
Rest in peace Daunt. You must be proud.
Deepest sympathies to Shane and all of the Daunt family.
Sincerely, Fiona O’Keeffe MMC & Belvedere

Sincere condolences to the Daunt family at this sad time. I have so many wonderful memories of Mr. Daunt from Sunday Hockey and Mount Mercy. He was a true gentleman who showed kindness and positivity to all who were lucky enough to experience hockey with Mr. Daunt. I always look back on those Sundays with such fondness, especially when I think of the trips to the shop in his little red car.

R.I.P. my lovely Uncle Cyril. You will be missed by so many. I will miss your stories about times gone by, and your mischievous smile, your resiliance and dedication to what you loved. I am so happy that you got to visit with your brother, Ivan, recently, with the help of Tania and Sandra. Sending all my love to my cousins Adrian, Sandra, Leslie, Ian, Tania, Glyn and Shane, and their families. Sorry I couldn't make the funeral in person, but I was there, both online and in spirit. ❤️

Mr Daunt was an exceptional gentleman and outstanding hockey coach who influenced many people with his positivity both on and off the pitch.
His love of the game was infectious. He instilled this love and joy into all who came in contact with him, whether you were on his team or an opponent.
Many players are still playing today, well into their master years, because of Mr Daunt.
There are so many happy memories of playing for Mr Daunt in Mount Mercy.
Fabulous bus journeys, with live traditional music both going to and coming from the games.
Parties out in Berrings. Team bonding and lifelong friendships were built on these nights.
On one occasion, hopping off the bus, a little hot port from a flask to warm us up as it was a freezing day with snow on the ground.
It was a privilege and pleasure to be one of Daunts Mount Mercy girls.
May he rest in peace

I have very happy memories and feel very lucky to have known Mr Daunt. He was a marvellous hockey coach and a real guiding light to us in our endeavours on the hockey pitch in Mount Mercy in the mid-late 1980’s. (Ably assisted by Glynn and Shane of course!). May his gentle, cheerful soul rest in peace.
Tania, Glyn, Shane, Ian and Lesley, I am so so sorry to hear of the passing of your dad. What a magnificent hockey coach and such a lovely kind man. I have such great memories of your dad as coach at Scoil Mhuire, Harlequins and Belvedere. May he rest in peace.
My deepest condolences to the Daunt Family on Cyrils passing. Cyril was an incredible man and I've so many fond memories of himself and Claire growing up. They were like grandparents to Anna, Ronan and myself.
We loved going for trips in the many toyota starlets they had over the years. Cyril had Biddy and Claire had Betty. There was never anything better than going to stay in Fountainstown with them for a night when our parents were away. Cyril's garden was a playground to us as kids, from feeding the fish in his ponds, to paying chasing around the house they definitely had their hands full with us.
Cyril and Claire, thank you for all the special memories.
Thinking of all the family during this difficult time.

Dear Tania, Rosie and the Daunt family. I’m very sorry for the loss of your beloved Cyril. Cyril and Claire were massive influences on my life, the most incredible and loving couple. Claire was the kindest lady looking after us growing up, and I have so many fond memories of them both. I loved the sleepovers in Fountainstown - playing lawn bowls, board & card games and being on the receiving end of Claire’s baking. I loved Cyril’s tours of his garden, and his passion of protecting his fish from the best efforts of the herons. A true gentleman. RIP
Sincere condolences to Lesley and all the Daunt Family on the passing of Cyril. The name Cyril Daunt has been a name that our family has known for a long time and we had a long history of working with and for Cyril over many years.
Cyril was a true gentleman and even though he lived to a great age, it is always very sad for the whole family when a loved one passes away.
Hopefully you will find comfort in the many years of memories you have of Cyril
May he rest in peace

Cyril was a great man and left a great legacy particularly on the hockey front. My most memorable moments of Cyril were on the sidelines of the Mount Mercy v Regina Mundi school battles. While I was on the Regina side I will always remember the great loyalty and affection his charges had for him. He was so dedicated to whomever he was looking after. His love of the game was passed on to many generations.
Thank you Cyril. You will be greatly missed.

Deepest Sympathy to the Daunt family on the passing of Cyril.Cyril was a great coach and person.
Best wishes to the Daunt family on the passing of their beloved Dad Cyril. What a hockey legend. So many very happy memories of Sunday hockey, Mount Mercy matches, bus trips, movie night for the team. Cyril invested in all of us, his time, energy, sincere praise and fair criticism. He was also determined that the school eventually get an astroturf pitch and if you trained all summer, he took note and commended you. Everyone needs a Coach like that in their lives. We were lucky. Best wishes Shane, Glyn and all the extended family and friends of Cyril. A life well lived.
I wish to express my Deepest Sympathy to the Daunt Family on the passing of Mr Cyril Daunt. May he Rest in Peace.
