I just found out about Cyril’s passing I am a cousin daughter of his uncle my father Patrick Dunne.I send my condolences to his family and friends. We didn’t see a lot of Cyril we lived in England, but when me and my brother and sister were young we often went to Bray on holiday staying with my Grandmother at 10 Dargon Street. We always called him uncle Cyril thinking as children he was our uncle but he was our cousin.
So sorry to hear of Cyril’s passing. I remember over the years I always thought that Cyril was my uncle as he was so much older than me but he was actually my cousin. He idolised my father Patrick (Paddy) Dunne and we would always meet up with him and Sheila when we visited Bray. I hadn’t heard from Cyril for a number of years but he contacted me when he was researching his book ‘Buried in the Artic Ice’ about our great uncle James Hand who died in Greenland and asked if I could get him some information about the ships that James had served on in his time in Royal Navy. I was able to supply with him some additional information for which he thanked me by gifting me a signed copy of his book and mentioning me in an Epilogue chapter in the book. Rest in Peace Cyril now you have been reunited with your dear wife Sheila. xxx
I was so sorry to hear of Cyril's recent death. I met him when I worked for Ger Nolan, his accountant in the 1980s and 1990s and his happy smile and positive attitude were infectious. I looked forward to him coming into the office. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Rip Cyril.
So sad to.hear of cyril passing a lovely man with a bold sense of humor.
It is with great sadness that I have learned of Cyril’s passing , I had the great pleasure to work for Cyril & Sheila for many happy years .A gentleman through & through.May he rest in peace .
My sincere sympathy to Valerie and Mark and to Cyril's extended family and many friends.
Though Cyril lived out a long and fulfilled life, he really never grew old.
Others will attest to his contribution at business, social and community levels. I'd like to dwell on his contributon to local history.

His history of Bray Golf Club (of which he was a candidate for "oldest member"), a superb achievement which could not be undertaken in a similar way now, is a significant contribution to the early development of golf.
It may be that his greatest feat of literary excavation is his moving reimagining of the story of his great-granduncle Jim Hand (a young man from the Vevay), who was a part of the crew of the Nares Expedition of 1875-6, which sought to find out what had happened to the earlier, doomed Franklin attempt to find the North West passage.
From very little information, family lore and a brief mention in a history book, he built up a compelling narrative of this ill fated and for Jim Hand, ultimately fatal voyage. "Buried in the Arctic Ice".
More recently Cyril engaged with the story of Edward(Paddy)Burke, son of the Bray's first Librarian, William Burke. A pioneer of early military and commercial flying Burke met his death in British Columbia in 1930, while on a prospecting flight.
Cyril's ability to master detail and to remember and place actions and events was outstanding.
He is now reunited with his wife Sheila, the great love of his life.
Rest in Peace, Cyril.
Mick.

I was saddned to hear of Cyril 's death...I have fond memories of him and his beloved Sheila over the years and when i worked in the shop as a student.....may he rest happily now with Sheila...RIP.
I have never met Cyril but my mother Patty Fox (nee Flynn) spoke of him fondly and frequently. She worked for Cyril in the boutique in Bray and they kept in touch and exchanged Christmas cards over the years. When she passed away in November Cyril kindly sent a letter to our family and a few weeks back my dad called over to Cyril to thank him. Unfortunately he wasn't home but I hope Cyril knew how much his gesture meant. My sincere condolences to Cyrils loved ones at this time.
