DAME EDNA O'BRIEN

I am writing to offer my deepest sympathy and condolences to the family, sons, grandchildren, relatives ,friends and colleagues of Mrs Edna O' Brien.
may she rest in peace and may god grant her peace and grant peace to her deceased brother and sisters and her deceased Husband Ernest Gebler.

Edna was a very talented and intelligent Irish woman, a talented /clever famous writer and Author and I will always remember hearing her voice on radio /Television interviews etc etc .
God Bless Edna and Thank god for her life and Thank god for her creative writing and her creative mind.
Her books and stories will be remembered and she will be remembered in Irish history and Irish culture now and in the future and will be found in libraries and bookshops.

I watched Edna's funeral on the RTE news in August and it was very nice she was buried at the old monastic cemetery at Holy Island in County Clare and It was interesting and nice to see the mourners and her family , relatives and friends travelling in the small boats on the lake / river at lough Derg with Edna's coffin to the old cemetery for her burial .
it was a reminder of old types of Irish funerals in the past , many years ago in the west of Ireland and in countryside areas/ island regions of Ireland and a reminder of funerals in very old graveyards in the middle of farmers fields.

I will remember Edna and her sons +family in my prayers.

For me as a young country girl in boarding schoolduring the sixties hearing and reading about Edna O Brien and all the onslaught that she endured because of her ist book " Country girls" I remember well and my own questioning what was so wrong.
Over many decades I have read her many books and always appreciated and valued her authenticity and her truth.
These values were always there and always reflected in her interviews that she gave over her many decades as a person and writer.
Thank you Dame Edna O Brien may you have eternal rest.

It is believed that "evil flourishes when good men do nothing". Edna O' Brien was a good woman who did absolutely everything to stop the evil in society flourishing using her gifted literary skills.
Irish people, especially women, owe her an immense debt of gratitude for having the courage to put her head above the parapet of repression and speak out.
She did us proud. Cream always rises to the top. Thank you Edna.

Sincere sympathy to the O'Brien and Genler families. I had the privilege of meeting Edna in UCD when we acquired part of her archive. She had such a presence and we were all enthralled. We will continue to share her archives with researchers and students. They can see her time and energy that went into drafing and redrafting each piece, looking for the perfect combination of words.

My condolences to Enda's children and extended family. She was and is an exceptional writer. I always loved to hear her speak and read her books. She was a giantess for woman, in a way giving two fingers to the world that woman have things to say and to contribute so get over it.
