Damian Furlong

So sad to hear of Damian"s passing. Remembering the trips I took with him and Ray to Cuba and Sicily. He was the ideal travelling companion. Deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

Sincere condolences to Damians family & friends. He was my mentor for 10 years for which i was extremely lucky & forever thankfully. He was so knowledgeable & was always ready to guide me & the company. He was a very kind man & always had great tales of his adventures abroad & of sailing. May your adventures continue forever, you will be missed xx

I was so sad to hear of Damian‘s passing and send my sincere condolences to all his family.
We met many years ago in Hamburg and became good friends. I have many happy memories of good times spent with him and other Irish friends here in Hamburg.
I missed his company when he returned to Ireland but we always kept in touch.
He invited me to visit and I very much enjoyed the long weekend in Malahide and Dublin. My mother was from Clonmel so I have a close connection to Ireland and love being there.
Damian loved to sail, as did I, and we met up some years ago in Greece for a lovely holiday, sailing in the Ionian Sea.
He always spoke so lovingly and proudly of his daughter Stephanie. His last WhatsApps to me were to inform me of the birth of his first grandchild in November 2021 and to send a photo of Stephanie with baby Rafa in March 2022. He was still in Chile at that time, a country I also love and have visited several times.
We telephoned shortly after that and then I heard no more. I continued to send messages, especially for Christmas and his birthday, the last one by email this May.
Damian was a dear friend and a wonderful, kind and gentle person, who I was very fond of. I am very thankful to have known him.

Damian and I became friends at a very early age, when we were in primary school (Belgrove) together. Or families became close too, particularly my mother, Liz, with Damian’s mother, Collette. We went to different secondary schools and followed separate university courses, and then lived in various countries abroad, but we remained close friends even though we might not see each other for years at a time. Damian was always that unchanging, kind, and loyal friend, ever generous like his father Paddy. I’ll always remember the happy occasions we shared over the years from the early years in Clontarf, to the trips to Cuba and Sicily, right up to the last few weeks in Talbot Lodge when he could still remember events and people from the old days better than I could. My deepest condolences to Lesley, Stephanie and their families and to all Damian's close friends whom he brought together in his last years. Rest in peace, dear friend.

I am sorry for your loss. Stephanie is my chosen sister, and we will always take care of her.

Rest in peace, Damian: One of the gentlest, most-gentlemanly, educated, erudite, supportive people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. Whilst in the past decade or so, we'd drifted apart and lost contact (for no reason other than life is like that). This incredible guy supported and worked alongside me to help build and manage my business back in the good old days, was a good and constant friend and advisor, and joined us in overdoing it on the Weihnachtsmarkt glühwein on a few memorable (if barely remembered!) occasions - He was there at the beginning of many of our post-uni adventures in life over 30 years ago - the Wise Old Man (still in his 30's!!!) of the HH / Dublin original crew: One of the grown-ups with life-experience who at least tried to keep us young turks on the straight and narrow.

It's shocking, tragic, and sobering that we lose so many good ones far too young. The world is a sadder place and I for one shall remember Damian with very fond memories, an undying respect, and sense of loss that cannot be explained despite the years adrift.

Rest in peace, old friend: You will be remembered. Sorry, I had so many tales to tell you and now I never can. Until our next annual returns meeting in the next life...I salute you.

Querido Damian, fuiste una gran persona y amigo, compartimos mucho en tus primeros viajes a Chile, con mucho cariño te recibimos en nuestra casa de calle Holanda donde Stephy inició su vida en Chile junto con Cristina.

Recuerdo mucho las conversaciones en inglés/español junto a unas Paulaner, las ideas de negocio y finanzas que teníamos cada uno, los intercambios de libros (me regalaste mi primer libro en inglés, The Rhinemann Exchange, Robert Ludlum), gracias a ti conocí un poco de Irlanda y su cultura, música y cocina, recuerdo mucho las partidas de pool que te encantaba jugar como buen irlandés.

I was lucky enough to spend time with Damian since I was a child, here in Chile when he visited, and also in Dublin when I had the chance to go, where he kindly hosted me and my friends at his house, making sure we had the best of times. With great joy I will always remember him as a loving father, very close to his family, a gentleman, and having a unique sense of humor, managing to make us all laugh in the most unpredictable moments. Great memories will always stay in our hearts. Rest in peace Damian, I have no doubt you are sailing away to a better place.

Tu segunda patria por adopción, donde viven tu amada hija y nietos. Cómo nos reímos en esas fiestas! Con tu infaltable cerveza, hablando en una mezcla de inglés y español, y bailando ritmos latinos tan ajenos a ti. Por eso te bauticé como "nuestro personaje inolvidable", y así quedarás for ever and ever. Cheers!

Working with Damian was a great joy. He was a rock of calm and composure and always happy to help - even those of us closer to the computer room than the ledgers. He will be missed - and a drink will be raised in his honour tonight.

I've had the privilege and the pleasure to get to know Damien who, with his daughter Stephanie and her mother, my friend Cristina, have spent a few days with me in Rio de Janeiro, Buzios and Paraty, in Brazil. It was a wonderful opportunity to get to know Damien, an inteligent, funny, generous and amorous man I shall never forget. Thanks Damien for having looked after Syephy and Cristina so well.

We were very saddened to hear of Damian’s passing. We had the pleasure of working with him in the early 2000s and remember him as a truly lovely man who generously shared his wisdom and advice. He was the embodiment of calm.
We were recently reminiscing about the great lengths he would go to in order to keep up with the latest episodes of his beloved Spanish soap operas — a memory that brought a smile to our faces.

So very sorry to hear, I worked with Damian for quite a nunber of years and we became good pals enjoying socialising nights at Xmas etc. He taught me so much about finance business and life in general. RIP a true gentleman and wonderful person.

Damian was always someone we looked to for advice which he gave generously.
We really looked forward to meeting him at Furlong gatherings especially at Christmas. Our parents David and Clodagh were especially fond of Damian.

We met Damian during his trips to Chile, and had the opportunity to share wonderful moments. He was a good man and will be truly missed His quiet manner inspired thought and introspection, as well as his devotion to family in spite of the distance. May his memory be a blessing to all.

I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Damian. May he rest in peace. I was in school with Damien in Belgrove NS and later in St.Paul’s. We had a good connection with each other during those formative years. We had not seen each other since those days but my great memory of Damian was that he was a good human being, always interested in others, kind and generous, a top man.
