Late Night Laughter
A Poem for Damo
Late night laughter rolling on smoky airs.
Melancholy melodies ebb and flow, caught in the storm of booming voices,
Philosopher’s musings and brazen banter.
Blackbird, Rocky, Maguire and Patterson appear, with a flick of the hair
demanding tea with a wry smile and cheeky stare.
The Kettle sings a familiar tune,
The squeezing of bags, spilt sugar the clanking of spoon,
‘Nice one horse’
Cradling dreams between fingers, licking of lips, pause, inhale, sip
A guitar is plucked in the corner,
you’re going to make me lonesome when you go.
Daylight wrestles, nights shadow.
Leaba calls, eyelids heavy.
Eclectic tunes reverberate from the dance floor.
Can you feel it, can you feel it…
Sleep, take these broken wings and fly away.
