Dan Logue

Mo chomhbhrón oraibh, Jimmy agus Bríd agus ar do mhuintir.
I first met Dan when he started calling to McGee’s, my next-door neighbours in Balure and my second home. I was used to lots of attention from Cait and her mum, Gee-Gee. It is to Dan’s credit that he coped so well with the ever-presence of my 4 year-old self- but Cáit was lovely, kind-hearted and glamorous and Dan was patient. My family were heartbroken when the McGee family moved to Downings but Dan came to the rescue and Cait returned to the Bugagh. Everyone was welcome in their home in Gort a Móra and with the arrival of their cherished children: Jimmy their first-born followed by his sister Bríd, visits to Dan John Eoin’s became even more exciting. They then moved to Downings and their later lives were busy and successful. I am grateful for those early memories of Caít and Dan and recollections of such happy times. Jimmy and Bríd. I was so sorry to hear your Dad has died. RIP. During the Summer of 1968 I worked in the Portnablagh Hotel and every Wednesday on my half day off after he delivered the fish to the hotel he would give me a lift home in his wee van. Luckily I loved fish as by the time I’d reach Downings I wasn’t smelling too sweetly. Great memories of those trips.

He supplied us with fish when we were kids and not to fond of them then, but the practice of fish on a Friday was very strong in Ireland back in those days. May he Rest In Peace.

My sincerest condolences to all Dan's family.Dan was a wonderful coach and manager of our young footballers in Downings back in the days.He was a true gentleman and good friend I will miss my visits when up in Downings and listening to his stories . He would always greet me with ' Are you still in Cavan ? May he rest in peace- his good friend froms the 50s on.
