Daniel (Dan) Watson

We are so saddened to hear this news. We were friends with Dan back in the university days and shared a house in Melbourne. We didn't catch up often enough. We were so happy he found someone special in Ireland, but so sad he wasn't to enjoy his time with you, Olivia.

I met Dan and yourself a number of times this year, at the Divine Mercy Conference in Dublin in February and again at a few retreats given by Rev Fr Prince SJ, especially the last one in Knock on Monday 25th August. What great form you both were in that day, and what a joyful blessed day it was. Dan was such a gentle gentleman and it was obvious the great love and faith that you shared. I pray that the graces and blessings that you received that day will stay long in your heart and comfort you in the days and months ahead. Be assured of my prayers constantly for you all and Fr Prince sends his prayers and blessings to you from India at this devastating time. Keep your heart up as best you can and the time will come when you remember the great love, fun, happiness and joy that you were blessed to share together. May our Blessed Mother and Her Son confort you at this time.

Dear Olivia & The Watson Family,

Saying goodbye to Uncle Dan the Man feels almost impossible. He was my dad’s mate for over 50 years, and in that time was a true part of our family — and my godfather. His spirit was larger than life, and his kindness, humour, and love for people shone through in everything he did.

His daughter Nicole is one of the sweetest and strongest women I know. Through this heartbreak she has shown incredible courage — a reflection of the values her dad lived by and passed on.

The last message he sent me is something I’ll carry forever: “Hope you are being the best version of yourself… my latest mantra is to travel, help people and laugh more! Girl, seize it.” That was Dan to the core — always wanting more for us, always encouraging us to reach our full potential, to live boldly, to keep giving, and to never forget the power of laughter. Oh boy, he had the best laugh!

We will always remember the stories, the warmth, and the way he could light up a room. Life feels a little emptier without him, but I know he’d want us to keep seizing every moment in his honour.

My thoughts and love are with you all. May you find comfort in the memories of a truly remarkable man who will never be forgotten.
