Daniel (Danny) McDonnell

Danny was a lovely man who always brought a brightness to every room he was in. My thoughts are with Rosie, Audrey, Katie, Molly, and Daniel 💔

I'm very sorry to hear this, I knew Danny from the RTE Concert Orchestra, my sympathies to his family and friends.

So sad to hear about Danny’s passing. I had many a good night working with him in RTE and the NCH. He was a really good guy. My condolances to his family.

He always had a ready smile, and cheeky sense of humour, and was the only man I ever knew to drink Smithwicks Tops!! It was a pleasure to have known him. R. I. P.

One of the RTE Concert Orchestra family, played pool with him and Colm on several American tours in the 90s, always a laugh... Used to occasionally forge his writing and fill in his crosswords when he was out of the room, sometimes putting in a wrong word purposefully, I should at least confess now... remember the little mouse in the corner, particularly Molly, when he'd 'bring-your-child-to-work' day, and her thinking she was in outer space... "all aboard' his catchphrase going onstage... never saw him in bad humour... fondest memory is travelling 1500km on the bullet-train in China, 300km/hr, and we ran out of beer... However they organised it, Danny and co discovered the next sealed carriage had 19 cans of Snowflake, or whatever the pathetic substitute for lager was, and at a designated stop Danny headed off and came back within the 3 minute stop with all the beers and a few more he'd snagged from the train stopped at the opposite platform... He generously gave me one and I toasted his talent, despite the fact the beer was not gluten-free... That would have been a big ask in China... God has many rooms in his house, as the Gospel told us... I have no doubt one is a bar with a sports bank of TVs and an eternal supply of crosswords and Sudokus... Love you, Danny, sail through the stars until we meet again. D
