Daniel Mackay

I’m so sorry for your loss.
Mackay was an amazing man who helped me survive some of the toughest years of my life, not because he had to, but because he cared. He always had a safe space for me in the art room to express myself (even if it was screaming in front of an entire class of year 7’s) and never made me feel like my emotions weren’t okay. Mackay helped foster my passion for art and I have him to thank for my developing art career.
I wouldn’t be the person I am today with out him.
Ann-Marie, Otis, Sadhbh and all of Daniel’s family, he was a kind hearted man who had such a beautiful impact on so many of our lives and will be missed greatly but in our hearts always.

We were lucky enough to have you teach, encourage and see the best in both our kids at Brentwood.

Lil Sadhbh has always had a special piece in my heart and Otis is just as amazing.

he was a father to so many of us kids from school. he helped raise us. he supported us, loved us, created safe spaces for us, he cared so much and he wasn't afraid to show it. he played such a huge role in my life and i wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the fact he had so much care and compassion and understanding. i don't know what to say other than the fact his patience and unconditional love saved me, got me through the hardest time of my life, helped me graduate high school and continue to grow. he will never ever be forgotten. my heart breaks for mrs mackay and their two children. nothing in this entire world can take away the pain they must feel. i send you so much love and support.
he's left a mark in our hearts that we will carry forever and always. i promise to make you proud sir.

You were a beautiful human Daniel taken far too soon. I hope you’re flying high and free forever young. Until we meet again my friend xx

Hey man, I have so much to say and yet it's so hard to find the words. I miss you so much brother. We had so much fun together. With you I have loved teaching, going to art exhibitions and sharing some amazing experiences at music gigs/festivals. I am heartbroken and feel your absence heavily. I will always be looking for you in the crowd at future festivals. I love you, rest in peace you muppet.

Ann-Marie, Otis, Sadhbh and the extended Mackay family, we are so devastated for your loss of Dan.
He was such a good friend to us and had such a big heart.

We have such great memories with you all and especially loved how Dan was always just one of the kids.
Whether it was skateboarding down at upwey south tennis courts during Covid lock downs, beers at the fat goat, or he was always the first to get in the freezing water on his SUP down at Phillip Island we will always have those great memories.

He was such a natural as a father and it was plain to see how much he loved you and the kids.

The world will be a little less brighter with him not in it but Dan and I are just so grateful we were able to share some time with you all recently in Ireland.

Our kids will forever know Dan as ‘Big Dan’ and we all will miss him very much.

Daniel was one of a kind. Back in early 2000s we formed Dodgy Brothers Building Inc when two people with no real clue what we were doing starting building sets for our productions. 20 years later we progressed to having some sort of idea of what we were doing and with some new members to the crew including a plethora of current and former students, staff and friends who came along for the ride - we created something special at Brentwood. You created something special.

Those late night/early mornings were some of the best memories I have and when we stood back and saw what we created - we knew we did something special for the students and community. Brentwood Performing Arts is our family and I will never forget these crazy times together. Macca, you made an impact on so many people mate. And you will be missed more than can be expressed.

To Ann-Marie and your children, it is with the heaviest of hearts that I send my deepest condolences on the loss of Daniel. He was a wonderful teacher who had a special something in his guidance of teenagers through their education. I will be eternally grateful for all the support Daniel provided to my daughter during her education.

A great loss for such an important, special, exceptional teacher and above all friend. I feel very sad. He gave guidance and support to me and many other lost students at Brentwood Secondary College. He created a community with bonds that tie us together. We were very lucky.

Mr Mackay was always a bright smile and a warming figure in my life. He made me feel welcome at school, challenged me artistically and supported me through my teenage years. Daniel was also instrumental in helping me find my voice and path when I started my final pre service teaching round at Brentwood Secondary College. He allowed me to make my own mistakes and helped me learn from and is one of the reasons I became a teacher. He is someone I always admired for his ability to relate to students and knack of cracking the toughest of exteriors.
He will be sorely missed.

Our hearts are shattered with the loss of our dear friend. So many memories over the decades. Many milestones in our lives spent together. Many camping trips. It will never be the same. I am so heartbroken to hear of Daniel’s passing. My deepest condolences to Ann-Marie and their children. Daniel played a huge role in my high school years.
