I met Joey Dowd, on my first day at Southampton Uni in 1987, and we have been good friends ever since, which meant I first met Danny soon after.
Danny was a traditional pub landlord, he knew everyone in the community, was a good listener and always found time for people, but also didn't entertain fools. He worked hard, to support his kids through their education, he was a family man.
Danny loved a game of pool, cooked a great breakfast, and was always welcoming and hospitable, and loved to chat. The main thing we had in common was that we both loved Joey. Danny was a good judge of character, and was opinionated on things that mattered to him. Pleased you had a long and happy innings Danny, you'll be missed, but I take comfort in the fact that you will journey well
