"One cannot always tell what keeps us shut in, confines us, seems to bury us, but still one feels certain barriers, gates, walls. Is all this imagination, fantasy? I do not think so. Then one asks: Is it forever? Do you know what frees one from this captivity? It is very deep serious affection. Being friends, being brothers, love, that is what opens the prison by supreme power, by some magic force": Van Gogh, letter to his brother.
I considered Daragh a brother for over 30 years, was blessed to. In about 50 steps, I could walk to his family home from mine. If I walk the earth I couldn’t find a better person or friend; kind, fair, humble, calm, thoughtful, smart, honest & absolutely hilarious – his company was a gift, always.
In hindsight it's no surprise teaching was a natural fit for him- he always could explain things so clearly, simply & in a way you'd never have been capable of seeing without him. He was so committed & enthusiastic if he decided something was worth his time; a lesson in itself – strive to give everything in anything you do, put your heart & soul into whatever, whoever, you care about.
I'm so grateful to Ara & the family to have been gifted his company once more just before he passed. I told him how proud I am of him, what he made of himself, his miraculous spirit in adversity. I'll strive to impart on his beautiful children what a truly incredible person their dad was.
Daragh adios, you will be gone, but not forever. Mi mejor amigo, mi hermano, siempre.

I first met Daragh around 5 years ago when he was back in Ireland. I was delighted to be present for a lovely reunion amongst friends. We sat up chatting and laughing into the small hours. I'll never forget how comfortable and easy it was being in Daragh's company. He had so many qualities which I enjoy in people. His quick wit, sense of humour and lovely calming nature shone through instantly. I enjoyed listening to his stories of travels, living in Mexico and of his beautiful wife Ara and children, who he adored.
My heart goes out to all of Daragh's family and his many friends. I know his incredibly kind and loving spirit will always be present in his beautiful children, Diego, Sophie and Chloe. Love is never gone.
Rest in peace Daragh.

My condolences to Ara, Diego, Sophie, Chloe, Marian, Joe, Shane, Niamh, Eileen and all of the MacDonagh, McMunn and Lopez family. Please know that you are not alone during this terribly sad and unfair time.
Darragh was an incredible person. He was someone I feel blessed to have known and who I feel so proud to have been able to call my friend. He was funny and kind and dangerously sharp with comic timing that always resulted in hours of laughter and slagging.
I miss laughing with you more than anything Darragh.
In school Darragh was a messer and such fun to be around. Travelling together he was like a brother and from then on that bond never changed. Seeing Darragh become a teacher and an amazing husband and such a wonderful father, I'm so grateful for the time we shared, so many fantastic moments, the best days of our lives. I'll always talk about Darragh any chance I get.
I love you Mack, rest in peace my friend.

We first met playing for Rush Athletic aged 9 or 10. We stood on the sideline not knowing each other, just two eager subs waiting to get on the pitch. We became friends at 13 after landing in the same secondary school and subsequently helped each other through the highs and lows of those awkward teenage years. You were always calm, even from an early age, and that never changed as you got older. And you had this amazing ability to empathize with people when no one else would. So obviously you made a great friend, a friend I knew I'd have for life. In our early 20s we moved out together for the first time, and this is when the real fun started. Living and travelling with you was great craic, we'd always be pranking one another and you'd always have a quip on hand if I was slagging you. You were just so easy to be around. Everyone who met you understood that. You brought your trademark calmness, wit and kindness wherever you went so of course people naturally felt comfortable around you. I'll miss that comfort of being around you and I'll miss you so much. You were taken from your wife, kids and family way too early and it's hard not to feel angry about that. You were such a great dad and I'm so sad that we'll never get to see our kids play together. My deepest condolences to Ara, Diego, Sophie, Chloe, Marian, Joe, Shane, Niamh and anyone else who had the privilege of being close to Daragh. I like to think you're watching over us all now. Love you Mc, see you in the next life.
From our time living together in lusk, to the gatherings in Capel Street and Smithfield to our travels in South America, it was always an absolute joy to be in your company Mc. You had a natural warmth and friendliness with everyone whether you knew them 5 mins or 5 years. A very special person. There is that old cliché of 'no one had a bad word to say about him' but with you that was most definitely true. We love ya Mc and it is truly heart-breaking to lose ya so young and so soon. If its true like the song says 'that in the end, the love you make is equal to the love you take' then I've no doubt that the warmest, most beautiful soul is waiting to greet us. See you on the otherside. Rest easy mo chara.
Daragh was one of the most special souls I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. He gave his love so openly, and being friends with him meant giving that love back just as freely. I have so many memories of Daragh from travelling in South America, living in Dublin, parties in our Capel Street apartment with him and Ara, the divilment that was never far when he'd get that cheeky look in his eyes. Nobody could crack an atmosphere with a laugh like Daragh! But nothing really compares to seeing him last summer at home in Geevagh. Daragh becoming a father was the culmination of all his love, his open-heartedness, his adventurous spirit, and I saw a new Daragh, so content and happy. He had gotten everything he wanted, and it's heartbreaking that his Geevagh family and his beautiful wife and kids don't get that time with him. We will always keep Daragh's memory with us, there was no friend like him, and the love he gave out into the world will be carried on in everyone who was lucky enough to know him.

Daragh was/is/will forever be one of the most magnificent people we know.
Growing up with Daragh, admiring him, learning from and with him.. wanting to be more like him, I cannot compliment him and you all enough.
We have lost one of our favourites and we feel we speak for everyone here with that statement.
Sorry to the rest of humanity, landing in 2nd place.
We knew him, we loved him and though we lost him.. we are luckier than those that never met him and pinch ourselves each day with this realisation.
His natural instinct, intellect, kindness, attitude, work ethic and good looks rolled into the way he approached life and will forever be an unending inspirational guide for us all.
Diego, Sophie and Chloe you embody your Father Daragh. He stays with us, within us.
Rest easy now dear friend.
Our love for you ❤️

I first came across Daragh as a young boy with his Aunt Eileen. The one memory that stood out for me about Daragh were his beautiful brown eyes and from the many photos I have seen recently, he grew into a handsome young man. I have tried to imagine what it must be like for his lovely wife Ara, their three young children, his mother Marian and his Aunt Eileen, losing such a wonderful husband, father, son and nephew at such a young age. Rest in Peace Daragh RIP
Sincere condolences to all of Daragh's family and friends.
When Daragh was about the same age as Diego is now I shared a house in Dublin with his Auntie Eileen. I can still remember the excitement when Daragh and Shane would come to visit. They were great fun. Daragh was a bright, gentle and handsome boy. I have no doubt that all his many fine qualities will live on through his beautiful children and through all the lives he touched in his all too short life.
May his gentle soul rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to Joe, and all the McMunn family on the sad passing of Daragh. May he rest in peace.
Dear Daragh, what are we going to do without you? Everything that has been written about you is so true, your wit, enthusiasm, kindness, your caring nature and interest in people. Many of these people worked with you for only a month, we have known you all of our lives and we know what your loss will mean to us. To wake up every morning and think we will not see you again, making breakfast for the children, taking charge, doing all the things you did so well and with such ease. You set about making a life for your family her in Geevagh. You came with a plan and was well on your way to achieving it, getting your masters, securing a job that you were so looking forward to taking up. We are so proud of you and what you achieved. You wanted to provide a better life for Ara, Diego, Sophie and Chloe and I know it sent terror into your heart if you thought you had to leave them behind.
When you received your diagnosis your response was one of apology for bringing this trouble on us and how you would never be able to repay us for what we were doing for you. You never complained or wallowed in self pity only resolved to get better.
We prayed and begged that you would get more time, that you would begin your life here in Geevagh with us. It is a measure of the love we had for you when all your cousins travelled to say good bye to you, your many Dublin friends came and cried at your bedside. You did not deserve this Daragh, your future taken from you, our future with you gone.

On behalf of the Irish Chamber of Commerce, its board and members, we would like to express our deepest sympathies on the untimely passing of Daragh McMunn.
I met Darragh when he was doing his MA TESOL and his laid-back manner and disarmingly thoughtful questions made an impression. When he went on to work on our Sligo summer programme, his cool head, creative problem solving and easy personable manner meant he was greatly appreciated by the whole team. His sad passing is a loss to the English language teaching profession in Ireland. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
My deepest condolences to Darragh's family and friends. Despite not knowing him for long, I had the pleasure of collaborating with him, and he consistently showed his kind and amiable nature. His dedication and compassion will continue to inspire us. May he find eternal peace, and may his memory live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
