Pat, Alan, Garrett and Families, Also Linda and Family and extended Family, I'm so very sorry to hear this very sad news of the passing of your beloved David, My deepest sympathy to you all, I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers, Rest in peace dear David.
To Dave:

I really hope that, despite your illness, you never lost that fantastic sense of humour .... and I really hope that you got to see our beloved Reds lift their 20th League title. We're back on our perch!

Thanks for enriching my younger years - and for the countless sore-jaw laughs that you brought my way. I will remember you with great fondness ... and I hope that those who love you most, can take some comfort in knowing what a blessing you were to so many people.

Say "Hello" to Bill & Bob for me if you happen across them in the "Boot Room" in the sky!

May those you've left behind Never Walk Alone.
If I may, I'd love to take this opportunity to recall one of my fondest memories of Dave ... and anyone who's familiar with the "Man At The Window" scene from "Only Fools & Horses" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-9bc_EA_MI) will soon understand why I always think of Dave whenever I come across this video clip ....

Basically, I was working alone in a ground floor lab in Yamanouchi late one evening - and it was a particularly brutal Winter's evening ... heavy rain; the odd crack of thunder & lightning and that skin-piercing sideways rain ... it was certainly an evening that you didn't mind being stuck indoors.

I was working away at a bench near the windows which looked out towards the tennis court and I suddenly got that 6th-sense feeling that I was being watched ... and when I looked up, my heart froze instantly as I was confronted by Dave's torch-lit face pressed up against the window; his mouth agape and his glasses reflecting back the internal labortaory lights, giving the illusion that his eyes were on fire! Well, I almost dropped the large (bloody heavy!) glass desiccator that I was yet to set-down ... and although I realised within seconds that it was just Dave doing his rounds, I wasn't right for a solid hour afterwards!!

He told me that he had stood there for a solid four or five minutes waiting for me to look up and that he was just about to start tapping on the glass when I finally did.
I'm deeply saddened - and somewhat shocked - to hear of Dave's passing .... the world has lost a real treasure of a man!
It's almost 4 years since I was last talking to Dave, who was genuinely one of the nicest guys I've had the pleasure of meeting - and I deeply regret not making a greater effort to keep in touch with him.

I first met Dave when I started working in Yamanouchi back in 1997 and he was one of the main reasons as to why I enjoyed working there as much as I did. A brief, but warm wave from him on the way through the gates in the morning - and maybe a passing comment about how Liverpool got on that weekend - and you felt like you were set-up for a good day .... and then, if the opportunity arose, some witty, laughter-filled chat on the way out the gates that evening. If somebody wasn't already bending his ear across the hatch, then I'd often pull in the car and bask in his company for as long as I could get away with.

One thing that surfaced again and again during our chats - other than our mutual love of Liverpool Football Club - was an obvious devotion to his family, whom he always spoke about with such great affection and pride ... and he was clearly a wordly-wise man who was always more than happy to impart priceless nuggets of advice if he felt it was needed. But he was never a preacher - and always respectful of other people's opinions.
Condolences to David's family and to pat and Maureen rest in peace David.
