Dear Emma, I only heard today of your dear husband going to God, seeing the face of God directly now, thoughts and heartfelt prayers at this huge loss for you. And your family. Love, Miriam
Deeest sympathy to Young Hee and all the family.
So sorry to hear of David's death. He and I went way back - to our very early days at Northlea school in Seaham. We bonded over a shared passion for music and, in particular, guitar playing. Dave had immense talent as a musician - he was a really instinctive guitarist. His knowledge of music was also immense. It was a joy to hear him wax lyrical about the Band, the Beach Boys, the Byrds, the Beatles and also some bands that didn't start with B. I have particularly vivid memories of a camping trip we made to the Lake District in 1975, a summer that was almost as hot as the famous one of 1976. We went on to work together at the Sunderland Echo, Dave joining a couple of years before me and getting me swiftly up to date with the hilarious stories of the paper's colourful characters. I hadn't seen him for a number of years but he always loomed large in my memory - and he will continue to do so.
Dear Young hee and family, please accept our heartfelt condolences. Dave was a great friend to me over many years from our time together at the Daily Post and Echo in the 8Os. He was always wonderful company - a raconteur, musician, and humorous observer of the newspaper business. Grace and I will cherish our many happy memories, particularly meeting up last year in Sesimbra. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time.
So sorry to hear about Dave's passing. We worked together at the Daily Mail in London 20 years ago. He was a talented sub and huge music fan and I have fond memories of those days.
So sorry to learn of David's death.
He was a former colleague in Independent Newspapers. Fond memories of his humour, love of music and whole knowledge of newspaper production.

Dave was a great guy and a great sub-editor. Whenever I worked alongside him I knew I was sitting beside a real pro. He had a great sense of humour and broad breadth of knowledge. I enjoyed Dave's company in work and also during post-work pints. I'll miss him. Condolences to all the family.

Dear Young Hee and family, we are so sorry to hear of your loss! We are praying for your comfort in this sad time.
So sorry to hear the news about Dave. We were work colleagues and friends in Liverpool in the 1980s and later for a short while in London. Always great company and an excellent guitar player too. My condolences to his family. He will be sadly missed.
So sorry to hear about Dave. A sound colleague and a lovely man. RIP
Deepest sympathies to Young Hee and David's family. I always enjoyed the chats with Dave about film, comedy and the various funny newspaper errors that made it into print over the years. He was a great colleague, diligent sub-editor and I always looked forward to subbing alongside him in the Mail and Backbench. May he rest in peace.
My condolences to David's family. I hadn't seen him for a number of years - since Covid in fact - but at one stage we would meet regularly for coffee, or more frequently, drinks. David was an old-school sub-editor in the very best sense of that term, a stickler for getting things just right, an enemy of sloppiness, extravagance and pretension. Having worked just about everywhere, he was steeped in the lore of newspaper production, a great storyteller, a conoisseur of the absurd and a hugely funny man, his comic gifts enhanced for me by his quiet delivery and beautiful north-east of England acccent. A great exemplar of what is, I'm afraid, a disappearing trade and a lovely man.
Dear Young Hee. Please accept our sincere condolences on the passing of your dear husband, David also sincere sympathy to your beloved daughters.
No words can explain a big loss like this.
I just knew David not for long but we dont need too much time to see a great value man on our front.
My condolences to all family and friends.
Pedro.

Dear Young Hee, myself, wife Kris and son Jack are shocked and saddened at the news of David's death. We knew each other as kids in Seaham, mainly through our love of music, then later became colleagues at the Sunderland Echo, close friends and near neighbours. Through the years we always stayed in touch, latterly through long phone calls. We will miss him so much. Our hearts are with you and all the family.
Dear Emma and Soo,

My deepest sympathy, Young Hee. David was a dear friend and former colleague. He will be sorely missed. Sending you love and strength.
To Young and David's girls, I'm so sorry for your loss, and to hear of David's passing. He always spoke very lovingly of you all, and he was a very kind man especially to new people in the office. Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís. May he rest in peace.
Dear Young Hee, Sookyung, Gikyung, Joan and Alan: I am so sorry and wish to express my deepest condolences and prayers to you on the very sad and way-too-soon passing of your beloved David. May he rest in peace, and enjoy his richly deserved Heavenly reward. I only met David in July for a two-hour coffee and chat in Clonskeagh — the time flew by and, unusual for me, I was lucky to get a word in edgeways as Dave told story after story. He could talk for Ireland. (Indeed, I was happy and honoured to have co-witnessed his Irish passport application form a number of years ago, which he had in his hand when I bumped into him by chance in Searsons.) He was a restless seeker of truth and integrity; I remember distinctly how dismayed he was when describing the unjust loss of his good friend and fellow journalist, Eugene Moloney, in 2012. Hopefully together, now, they are sorting out the splash between them upstairs! David is a huge loss, first and foremost to his wife and family, but also to the Fourth Estate. My deepest sympathies, Young Hee.
Condolences to Young Hee and family on the death of David. I have great memories of working with Dave in the Mail in Dublin. In an often hectic environment, he was a rock of sense who could cut through most of the nonsense (usually with a devastating one-liner). Throughout it all, he was also thoughtful and kind.
The light of heaven to him.

I’m so, so sad to learn of Dave’s passing. I joined the Irish Independent in 1993 as a sub editor and ended up sitting beside Dave. He was enormously helpful, and great company. We shared a love of music and he told wonderful stories of his friendship with the Christians and also Derek Taylor, who had a menial job as the Beatles PR! He often visited my house where we would cook fish and chips while listening to loud music. Later our paths crossed again at the Irish Sun. He hadn’t changed a bit. A brilliant sub editor but more importantly, a beautiful person. To Young Hee, their daughters and Dave’s family, my sincere condolences.
Our heartfelt condolence Sookyung, and to your Mother Young Hee and family. May God’s peace and love surround you at this difficult time. We pray David’s soul is now in the great light and peace of Our Lord. Amen.
Sincere condolences to Young Hee and family on the passing of your beloved husband may he rip
