So sad at David's passing ...our deepest sympathy. Sympathy also to his late wife Roslyn's family, Ros was such a support to David and a wonderful friend and neighbour to my late Mom Aileen Hennessy. RIP David.
I extend my deepest sympathies to David's family. I worked under David's watchful eye in the Music Department in UCC. He was deeply committed to students but also very supportive to me professionally as a young academic, for which I was, and am, incredibly grateful. Ar dheis Dé go raibh anam.
It was with deep sadness I learned of David's recent passing. His initial positive response to become involved with the Seminar on Contemporary Choral Music as part of the Cork International Choral Festival in 1994 prior to arriving in Cork characterised his generous, supportive, open, and committed nature which, in the ensuing years, I came to know more fully. He was deeply committed to all he undertook, whether it was the revitalisation of the Music Department, the development of the wider School of Arts, the concern for his students, his wise counsel to colleagues and friends. A man of scholarship and insight, his was a life fully lived and he will be missed by many.
My sincere sympathy to his extended family.
Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a anam dílis.
My sincere sympathy to the family of Professor Cox.
Sincere sympathies on David's passing. May he rest in peace.
My deepest sympathy to David’s family at this time. I was a BMus student at UCC from 1995 to 1999, in the early years of David’s tenure as Head of Department of Music, and we all loved him as a teacher and a mentor. He was very supportive of our endeavours as performers and composers, and he was always very approachable. He will be sadly missed by a whole generation of UCC music graduates. A lovely man, may he rest in peace.
My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Professor Cox. It was a privilege to study under his guidance and support at UCC's Music Dept.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
My deepest condolences to the family. I met professor Cox when I recorded his carillon works in Cobh. I remember his warm personality and his generous temperament. May he Rest In Peace.
I am so sorry to hear of Prof Cox' passing. I met me when he conducted the UCC choir. He was an inspiring man and and pushed us to perform the chorus from Handel's Messiah and one of his own challenging pieces in St Finebarre's Cathedral. May he rest in peace.
So very sorry to hear of the passing of David Cox. My sincere condolences to all family and friends.
Sincere condolences. A great supporter of musicians and music generation. RIP
My sincere condolences to the family of Professor Cox. I was fortunate to be a student in the Music Dept. at UCC in the '90s and early '00s. A kind, supportive Professor whose first words to me were words of encouragement, dispensed without fuss to a very nervous kid waiting to be called for my audition performance. There were many other similar moments of kindness over my years at UCC that were never forgotten. The bed of heaven to him.
I am so grateful to have met Prof. David Cox at the Department of Music in UCC and subsequently during his years as the first Head of the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences. He has left the world better than he found it, with his impressive skill as a composer, musicologist and educator with a conscience - and he was a lovely human being while he was at it.

Very sad to hear of David's passing. I knew him from my Sheffield University days, 1973-77 (78). David was my tutor for the M.Mus. degree. I have much to be thankful for in formative years. RIP.
I was so sorry to hear this news - David was Head of the UCC Music Department when I studied there from 1996 to 2000, and he was a great teacher. He was my first Composition teacher, and he was always so kind and encouraging throughout those important first years of becoming a composer. My sister Irene and I are both so grateful to him and we have precious memories of that time, where he cultivated a warm and supportive atmosphere in the department. Sending warmth to his loved ones at this time.
Heartfelt condolences to the family. I have always been very impressed by David's great appreciation of all forms of creative expression, including poetry: "I circle around God, around the primordial tower / I’ve been circling for thousands of years / and I still don’t know: am I a falcon / a storm, or a great song?" (from an English translation of a famous poem by Rainer Maria Rilke) – Möge er ruhen in Frieden.

My thoughts are with the family of David and Ros, my former colleagues in UCC. I have very fond memories of David. His dry wit and wicked sense of humour brought levity to the working day on many occasions. He was one of UCC’s true ‘independent thinkers’. Rest in Peace David and Ros. With love and appreciation. Nancy XXX
Sad to hear of the passing of David. He was a dear friend of our family as I was growing up and I’ll always remember his sense of fun, our shared love of desserts, and the great times we all had on family holidays. Rest in Pease, David.

The support David gave me during my student years, early career and beyond is demonstrable of his generosity of spirit, ability to encourage and draw the best out of those with whom he worked. Not only was he a great educator, he was a brilliant musician: an imaginative composer, meticulous musicologist and intelligent performer. Most importantly he was a very dear friend and will be sadly missed.

Sympathies to David's family, friends and colleagues. I was also a music student at UCC. David was encouraging, questioning, refreshingly honest, with a wicked humour! Today I just returned from Cork, having walked through UCC, stopped in the Honan Chapel and listened to an organ recital at St. Finbarre's, only to then hear the sad news of David's passing. I will remember David with much fondness and forever grateful for his guidance through university and years after.
Our deepest sympathy to David's family on their loss. David was a man of integrity with unswerving loyalty to UCC, his colleagues and his friends. As a board member of Cobh Carillon he played a pivotal role in the project to restore this unique instrument. He will long be remembered.
Sincere. Condolences. May david Rest In Peace
My sympathies to Prof. Cox's family - he was a great influence on music in Cork through his open-mindedness and encouragement of us young musicians. I remember him very fondly
Our deepest sympathy to David’s family.
Heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Professor David Cox. I am deeply grateful for his generous support for the development of Music Generation Cork City. Without hesitation David came on board at the very beginning to help with its establishment, and continued for as long as his health allowed him to show up to events in communities, schools halls, and in meeting rooms to support its growth and development. He had a genuine interest in concepts of equity and justice in music education and in lifelong learning. It was a pleasure and privilege to know and learn from him. Codladh sámh David.
So sorry to hear of David's passing. I learned a great deal from him when he chaired the interfaculty graduate studies board, before I took over and established the first graduate studies committee which we have in Academic Council today. A gentle man, scholar and great colleague in UCC. He will be sadly missed for his contributions to music, but the foundation stones he laid for the College of Arts Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, endures and thrives today. I wish to express my personal and UCC's sincere condolences to his family.

May he rest in peace.

My condolences on the passing of David. He was my professor during my time studying music in UCC and was always very helpful to me.
Condolences to the family of Prof Cox. Such a kind man & always so encouraging.
Sincere sympathy to the family and friends of David who was a wonderful person. He had the most unique sense of humour and wit and I will always appreciate the time he took to explain the academic world to a simple accountant.
I hope there is a Seomra Caidreamh with the best of tea and cakes waiting for you in the afterlife David.
