My sincere condolences to Margaret and all the Fitzgerald family on the death of Davy. I have happy memories of my time spent with him as our trainer for camogie in Oranmore all those years ago. Davy is the reason why I have been involved in such a beautiful game for the last five decades. Davy, thank you for making history to be the first manager to bring an All Ireland Camogie Cup across the Shannon, when with Sr. Marie you guided Presentation Convent, Oranmore to win the All Ireland Colleges Senior title when we defeated St Louis Convent, Kilkeel. That success inspired Galway to win the All Ireland junior title later that year and you helped Oranmore to further victories and the success of camogie in Galway today is as a result of the leadership you and others displayed in those great days in the seventies. We will never forget the imprint you made in all of our lives. Thank you for those memories.

In the early 70ts Davy approached me about setting up an Irish Dancing Feis in Oranmore and we did with three people from Galway City Dave myself a Presentation Sister who helped by getting the hall to hold very successful Irish Dancing Feis which ran for many years.

I am very saddened to hear that my beautiful neighbour Dave has died and offer my sincere condolences to his wife Margaret, daughters Elizabeth, Olivia, Maria and Rosaleen and son David.

Dave was a tremendous neighbour and trusted friend, always with a helping hand where and when it was needed and always with a smile and a joke to brighten your day. I am glad that I had the pleasure of knowing Dave down through the years and Oakfield will certainly not be the same without him. We will miss him for sure.

Rest in peace Dave and May you get the best bed in heaven.
