I am very sorry to hear that David has passed away. His quantum mechanics lectures, from many years ago, remain with me and my classmates to this day. He was a warm and thoughtful presence in class and in labs. He had a gift for making the complex accessible, for showing the wonder behind the equations and for connecting with students. While I didn’t have the opportunity to work with David, he is very fondly remembered about the School.
I was very sorry to hear of the passing of Professor Feakins. Although he left the School before my time here, it’s clear from the memories shared by colleagues that he was not only a respected academic but also a genuinely kind and thoughtful person.
It’s evident that he made a meaningful and lasting contribution to the department and to the lives of those who worked with him.
While I didn’t have the opportunity to know him personally, the warmth and regard with which he is remembered speak volumes. On behalf of myself and the School of Chemistry, I’d like to extend my sincere condolences to his family at this sad time.
