As a fellow 1970 Leaving Cert class member please accept my deepest condolences with David's passing. Rest in peace David, Frank Holt [Portland Oregon]
The news of David’s passing has only just reached me and my shock and sadness are profound. I send my deepest condolences to his family. He was a wonderful, warm-hearted friend. In our professional life he was an intriguing and always stimulating colleague. Sharing work and leisure times with him was a joy. His Irish wit was razor sharp, always to the point but never cruel. I will never forget him and in my Calendar, November 1 will always be dedicated to his memory.
I had the pleasure of learning much from David when we worked together as part of Deloitte on the Russia New Business Project. He was professional -- I still recall the thorough presentation on the project aims -- as well as compassionate and quick thinking. Plus he was fun! I echo many of the sentiments here that from Moscow to Dhaka and beyond, he made a difference.
Sadly I have only just learned of the sad passing of Dave , RIP.
Fondly remember his big smiling face and his great fun attitude to everything.

Such a sad loss to the world. It was such a pleasure and a privilege to have known David. He brightened up every room he walked in to. Richard, Charlotte and Fiona, you should be proud of the contribution that your father made to improving the lives of others.
David was many many things, but he was above all an extremely kind man who was larger than life. I knew him from both Dhaka and Damascus - he very kindly put me up for a few weeks in Damascus while I found my feet. I can hear his voice right now, telling one of his stories about the Bagha and his beloved Bagha crew, cracking jokes. RIP Fenning, and much love to Richard, Charlotte and Fiona.
A man larger than life in so many ways. Thoroughly enjoyed his company in “The Bagha” during the time we overlapped in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from 2007 to 2010. Thoroughly decent, with a huge heart and lovely Irish sense of humor. Condolences to all members of the family. He will inevitably be missed. Rest In Peace, my friend. Mister Steve
Remember him well , though lost touch after school - truly larger than life, will remember his drums from accordion band with fondness and the long time it took to forgive rest of us for forgetting to tell him dress was long trousers and blazers ( and not short Boy Scout pants ) for a particular concert .....
We first met David through his Daughter, Fiona who attends the same school as our daughter and he made an impact on us that will never be forgotten. A kind, gentle individual who would make conversation with anyone and took time to get to know you. We are so saddened that we cannot continue the friendship and our deepest wishes are that his children especially Fiona continue to feel the love he held for them even though his presence is no longer with us. May he rest in eternal peace.
So sorry to receive such sad news and my heart goes out to all his family - especially his children. I first had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful man when we worked together in Egypt and later in Syria and shall always remember so many happy times - just having fun and enjoying life. I’m sure heaven is a happier place with David as the main party organiser!
Sincere Condolences to Richard, Charlotte, Fiona
Since Tony Flannery introduced Fenning as we all call him to the Chase crew, he turned up at every party.
Driving down Grafton Street, Fenning opened the driver’s door and put out his foot to stop the car, he said the brakes were not working.
Valerie remembers being on the bonnet of Fenning’s car as they drove around Stephen’s Green
Deirdre remembers when he gave her a slug out of a bottle of 7 up at a rugby match....it was poiteen.
When Deirdre was at a Chase Christmas party thinking she was the bees knees with her lime green boa feathers.....until Fenning told her. “you look like a whore outta a cowboy western film”.
Fenning was so forgiving....after chatting up a girl at the South County, he brought her back to his car, only to discover I was asleep on the back seat of his car.
One other time that we all remember so well when Fenning gate crashed my hen party dressed as Madam Demis Rousseau and rearranged my Moroccan stool. A memorable evening.
Fenning you were a one off!!! You were a great friend to all of us
We will never forget you but you have left us all with fabulous memories that we could write a book on.
As Valerie says
The one and only Fenning - Heaven will have ‘Party Central’ with Fenning there
Love from Deirdre, Valerie, Denise Fogarty, & Mary

Sincere condolences to the whole family. David was always great company and we didn't see enough of him over the 40 years of our friendship!
RIP,
RIP,
David was a great man in size and stature. I got to know him while working in Bangladesh and, subsequently, also in Syria. He had a major impact on me personally and especially in my professional life and I have greatly benefited from his friendship and wisdom. He will be missed.
A few friends, who all knew him, and I will get together next week in Jakarta to remember him.
My condolences to Richard and Fiona, both of whom I've met, and to all other family and friends.
In my language there's a saying "quiet, a great man is passing" (Stil, daar gaan 'n man verby). This certainly applies to David.

So so sorry and desperately sad to hear of David's sudden death. A true friend and above all, a kind and warm-hearted mentor since I first met him in Dhaka in 2007. He will be very sadly missed by all his colleagues in the international development world. Keep the candle burning 'big-man'. I will miss you. Paula

I will never forget David's kindness. May God give him eternal rest and the family the strength to bear the great pain.
Remembering David with great fondness from our CTT days in Merrion Hall. Always a gent. May he rest in peace.

Sincere sympathy.
I shall miss David. I spent some wonderful times in his company. He outlawed mobile phones from his dinner table and the result was people talked , recited poetry, told stories and we laughed, we laughed a lot.
We met in Dhaka where he made so many friends and helped a lot of people who were finding life difficult.
My thoughts go out to his daughter Fiona. He adored her and talked lovingly about her when I last spoke to him on 25 October 2019. The shock of his death has touched a lot of people here in Dhaka and elsewhere.
He will not be forgotton by his many friends. I was blessed to be one of them. May he rest in peace.
