My sincere sympathy to Celine and family on the death of Dave.We served together in several Border units and it was a privilege to see Dave's loyalty, devotion to duty and above all his good humour and comradeship.

The word gentleman is often overused to describe someone but it automatically springs to mind when I think of Dave Griffin. I was a driver many moons ago in Collins Bks and I had the pleasure of driving him on numerous occasions although he was a officer and I a humble private he allways displayed great courtesy and respect towards me making sure I received my meals and secured suitable accommodation small things to him but a big deal to me . I don’t believe I ever heard anyone speak negatively of him . iThe things that stood out to me about Dave was his fantastic sense of humour and his beaming smile as he strode towards you! He was more than a great Army officer, Dave was a great human being. My deepest condolences to his family and friends on David’s passing. RIP Sir.

We were classmates in the 43th Cadet Class and served together in Ist Inf Gp (Dundalk), 5 Bn & 27 Inf Bn. A great comrade and wonderful company - "Spancil Hill" was always on the menu. Our mutual interest in golf, led to many great days together on the golf course at Greenore, Ardglass and further afield. I have very fond memories of sharing great times with Dave on golf trips with the Lumpers Golf Society down through the years.
