So sad to hear of Dave;s passing. Over my 33 years in the Indo I never met a nicer person with a smile, quick country wit and never ever flustered. He was always on the side of those who worked out on the coalface and knew and was given every loyalty. One of the last of a rare breed. Thanks for the memories. of those great news and sporting events that changed Ireland forever. RIP.
So sorry to learn of Dave's death. Sincere condolences to Catherine, Brendan, Mary and all the family. Any further words from here would be superfluous (and as a top-flight journalist Dave would not abide too much verbiage!). Suffice it to say he was decent man in every respect and all the glowing tributes to him are so true.
Sincere sympathy to the family of Dave. One of life's gentlemen. It was an honor to work with him in the Indo. Always encouraging with a kind word and a smile.
Sincere sympathy to Catherine, Mary, Brendan and all the Halloran family on the sad passing of Dave.
He was a great presence in the Irish Independent newsroom. So many of us benefited from his sound advice and even his ability to line up news reporting assignments at home and abroad. A very proud Mayo man and always had a smile and a friendly word. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

We send heartfelt sympathy to Mary, Brendan and Catherine on your great loss. I joined the news team of Independent Newspapers in 1970 as regional staffman based in Cork and for almost 28 years Dave and I were work colleagues. He was to become for me the most decent, straightforward, good humoured, loyal and valued colleague and friend a person could have. I was so lucky. Deeply saddened to hear of his passing. - Dick and Cassie Cross and family in Cork

Despite his elevated status in the world of media Dave Halloran never lost his sense of place or his sense of his own people. A gentleman, genial, generous and accommodating, I was lucky to count myself a friend of his for over three decades. I will miss his ready smile at our post retirement ad hoc meetings in Marley Park when the relative merits of Mayo and Kerry football were earnestly discussed. I wish to extend my sincere sympathies to Mary, Brendan and Catherine and to all the family at this very sad time.

Deepest sympathy to the Halloran family on the death of Dave.
It was a shock when I heard it but then I recalled his smile, his kindness, his good humour, his professionalism.
And I smiled.
As a reporter and news editor I dealt with Dave over 25 years. He made the Indo bearable and even fun.
He always had your back, never said a cross word, and was approachable about anything.
The best manager of people I ever met.
I last had a drink with him at the Indo party in Wynn's hotel two years ago.
He will be sadly missed.
So long Dave.

Sincere condolences to the Halloran family on the death of Dave. Courtesy, kindness and decency were the hallmarks of the man who guided so many of us as we started out in Independent Newspapers, and continued our careers there. He rose to a very high rank within the group, but he treated everybody the same, and in fact went out of his way to make sure new recruits settled in and were okay. His acts of kindness were much appreciated, and Dave will be sadly missed.
