Shocked and saddened to learn of Davey's passing. What a character he was! I often recall the mad "craic" we had in Flannan's in the 60s. The escapades we indulged in, both in and outside of school, made memories to last a lifetime.
Davey was a gifted athlete, a powerful sprinter and a skilful soccer player. I remember drinking pints of smithwicks with him in Brian Hogan's (Brogan's) when we were too young to be in there! The "craic" was ninety. Not to talk about Freddie Ruddle's! I had a mini that time and he was upset that I wouldn't be the "getaway" driver.
Davey was a very intelligent man, a man ahead his times in many ways.
The last time I saw him, he was up fixing the roof on his house in the Clare road! I hadn't seen him in many years; I got out of the car and shouted up...Hey "Fish!"
he looked down and said "Jayz' McCarthy, where did you come from?"
The world will be a lesser place without my old friend.
The bed of Heaven to you Davey!
