I was so deeply saddened to stumble across an article in the Irish Times, paying respect to Dr. David Naylor. I had the pleasure of spending time with David & Verney during their many trips to Specsavers mid Pandemic. I loved listening to their fascinating & adventurous stories while browsing the glasses selection. We often sat there chatting while I forgot I was on the clock! It was pure joy and escapism during such uncertain times. Watching David admire one of Verney’s many blue/purple/green coloured frames that she was deciding between, would warm your heart. There was a look of patience, warmth & kindness through his smiley eyes. “To be loved is to be known” and boy did David know & love Verney, appreciating every pop of blue she wore. 💙 May David rest in peace.
Sincere condolences on the passing of Dave. Great memories of Geology field trips in TCD in the 1960s and much later at Mizen Head. Dave was a lovely man.

Verney, I was so sorry to hear this: my sympathy and condolences to you and your family. Dave was the epitome of a 'gentleman and a scholar' and I was very fortunate that he was my first boss. He was a wonderful mentor, a patient manager, and a great role model for a young geologist starting out. His gentle sense of humour was always a delight too. Take good care, Fionnuala
