David Neary

So sorry to hear of David's passing, a wonderful work colleague and a gentleman, sincere sympathy to Alan, Janice, Adam, Liam and extended family, RIP.

David gave us an unforgettable day in Dublin just over 10 years ago. We are teachers and I am a history teacher from Manchester but of Irish descent. We had just met David's son Alan and it was our first time meeting David. He showed us several sites, obviously he knew a lot about those buried in Glasnevin and he was sensitive to the issues and impact of the Queen's recent visit to Dublin. However, I was able to talk with him in great depth about British and Irish history and its relation to issues in the wider world. He took us to Grangegorman where I was moved to see the well kept graves of British casualties from the wars. David was a great teacher. Generous with his time and wise in his understanding.

I have only just heard of the passing of david my heart is broken what a wonderful beautiful person david was he would come into the chemist and we would always have a great chat and yes alan you were always the main topic of conversation he was so very proud of you in all you achieve in life his eyes would light up when he would speak your name david had the kindest soul i will neaver forget him rest in peace david

So sorry to hear of David's passing. I got to know him during his time in Dublin City Council when he helped me and a wider group set the beggings of what later became the Marfans Assocation. He often spoke of his late wife, Maeve and his son Alan. A true gentleman, genuine, kind with a wide range of knowledge and it brightened the day to talk to him. David was a very good friend and colleague. I enjoyed working with him in Dublin City Council for many years.
He had a wide range of interests, and was very knowledgeable. He was tolerant of other people’s views, and wouldn’t let their views affect his friendship.
In many ways he had to contend with difficulties throughout his life, but he was always positive and never complained.
I will miss him.
