I'm very sad to hear of the passing of Dave. He was a fantastic mentor to many young guards in Naas over the years, myself included. My sincere condolences to all the O'Dowd family. May Dave rest in peace.

On my first Tour of duty in Naas in 1983 Dave was the first member to greet me. I couldn’t have met a more helpful person who always gave great advice to Junior Members. He was a first class Garda who was the Holder of a Scott Medal for Bravery. He had a great sense of humour and was a great work Colleague. I have fond memories of going on cycling trips with Dave.around Kildare in the mid eighties.
