I am so sad to hear of the passing of David.
We were great friends as very young fellow in Beaumont Avenue.
I am writing on behalf of The High School community to offer my sincere condolences following the death of David. I should like to extend our deepest sympathies to Daphne, Ian, Sarah, Caleb, Fionn, and Ben as well as to other members of the immediate and extended family.

We recall with great pride and affection that David was a distinguished past pupil who attended The High School between 1950-60. He subsequently made a significant contribution to the life of the school as President of the Old Boys’ Union in 1987-88 before being appointed a Governor of the Schools founded by Erasmus Smith Esquire. It was in this capacity that he served on the Board of Governors during which time he was appointed Chairman between 1995-90.

The High School will always be thankful that David chose to dedicate a significant proportion of his wide-ranging expertise to this institution where he is fondly remembered to this day. We remain grateful for his intelligent, insightful, generous, and supportive example in engaging with the generations of governors, staff, parents, and past pupils who now mourn his loss to the school community.

It will inevitably be a very difficult and painful time for family and friends both now and in the immediate future. However, you may be assured that we will continue to keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers at The High School whilst wishing you every strength and comfort during the months and years ahead.
We have great memories of David, who was a key member of the Guinness Choir Bass line for many years. His contribution to the life of the choir was immense, not least for his capacity to provide so much entertainment on our many tours. He is very fondly remembered by all.

We extend our deepest sympathy to Daphne, Ian and Sarah, Diana and his extended family. May he rest in peace.

Valerie Lang, Secretary
Diana, I send you my sincere condolences on David's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you and all the family. May he rest in peace.
David & his family were neighbours of our family in Churchtown for many years as was his wonderful mum Joan. In years gone by we would often meet and enjoy a chat about rugby & family. We were immensely sad to hear that he had passed away. He will be greatly missed. To Daphne & David’s family we offer our sympathy. Rest in peace David.
Sincere condolences to Daphne, Ian, Sarah and family at this sad time. David was a good friend to me and welcomed and encouraged me as a member of the Strollers Band. His speeches were witty and well received by all, no doubt he will also be missed by Miss Peabody who always featured in his stories. May he now rest in peace and rise again in God's glory.
Sincere sympathy to Daphne and all the Rowell family. Fond memories of David, a true Gentleman and a Wanderer legend. Rest in Peace Roller.
Diana so very sorry to hear of your brother David’s passing. May he rest in peace.
We first met David as a teenager when he joined the then Dundrum Dramatic Society in the 1960s which was run by the then rector’s wife Edna Burrows. He was, even then, very entertaining and good company. We also have very happy memories of his lovely Mum, Joan who was a good friend in those days. Sincere condolences to Daphne, Diana, Ian and Sarah and extended family.
Ah David you brought us on so many journeys, with apprehension, excitment, resurrecting paths of old, and new, always with humour. Your writing was alive. You brought treasures of your imagination to us in Airfield Writers, always with kind words. Thanks David for the memories, sure i still see your wry smile. Daphne and family so sorry to hear of David's death. Hugs and love. Eliza Homan Airfield Writers
Truly sorry to hear of Roller's passing. After attending Saturday morning classes at Marian College in 1968, I took a walk to Lansdowne Rd. and saw this guy wearing a white headband jumping for the ball and was really impressed and decided there and then I'd join that club which turned out to be Wanderers and from then on I've enjoyed life as a Wanderer.

Rest in Peace Dave.

Daphne, Ian and Sarah
Sherril and I send you our deepest sympathies on your loss of David. David was a giant personality in Wanderers and wider rugby circles. At the Wanderers dinner last evening news of his death affected everybody and many fulsome tributes were paid to his memory. And David created so many memories through his open personality and wonderful repartee never mind his prowess on the pitch. Micky Mac read a poem about his journey to Achill at the conclusion of the evening which was a memorable moment and an illustration of his depth of understanding in the natural world.
May he rest in peace
