Dear Eoin, Suzanne and Steph,

It is tough to put into words how heart broken I am for you guys.

I feel lucky to be part of the Sutton Squash family and to have grown up with David. I have countless memories with the Ryan family...of long car journeys around Ireland, exploring desolate towns around Europe, going out to restaurants-especially one in France when David convinced me that I ate horses ribs and put me off of food for the week, David giving his biceps names: 'Dan' and 'Ger', and me taking far too long to get it...all small, insignificant memories that give me the greatest comfort at this time.
I couldn't begin to discuss David's achievements, but one that I remember so clearly is when he beat Eoin in the club champs as a teenager. It was at this moment when I think I realised that he was going to achieve great things.
Ois spoke about it being unusual to have a role model the same age as you, and looking back, David was a role model to me despite being a year younger. I remember Eoin gently introducing the concept of going to college in the States, then promptly studying and taking the SATs with David, travelling together to do a squash camp in Yale (both of us experiencing a severe culture shock, but also, huge ambition), leading to me ultimately, attending college in D.C, and David in Boston...I have a lot in my life to thank my squash family for.
David will be forever missed and loved. But his memory will live on with all of us.
Rest in peace David.
— Breanne

Eoin, Suzanne, Stephanie, Ella & all in SLTC,
We have been so deeply saddened to hear of David's premature departure from your lives. He had such a beautiful presence - gracious, smart, calm, talented. To have him taken so young seems so cruel for all that knew & loved him & had the good fortune to benefit from his teaching & sportsmanship both on & off the squash court.
We remember him working with Rich for several months studying the stock market in the family office. He was determined & hard working & he would always have time for our little crew running around - a gentle, warm smile, bending down to their level. We feel lucky to have shared that time together.
Stephanie - your bond with David is precious & we hope those memories give you comfort in time.
Eoin & Suzanne - it's hard to express how devastated we feel that your beautiful family has experienced such heartache, such loss. You have always been roles models to us as parents with graceful, talented, respectful children raised by warm, loving, encouraging parents. Your grief is unimaginable. David did you proud - through all of his accomplishments, through all of the lasting friendships.
Know that we support you, all of us, in community near & far. David's reach in his short, yet full life was wide & long lasting & we hold his memories dearly & we hold your family in our hearts today, tomorrow & in the days, months & years ahead.
David - your legacy lives on - rest in peace xxx

Eoin, Suzanne and Steph,

My heart is completely broken for you all.
Dave to me was many things to me including a teammate, an inspiration and most importantly a best mate. My fondest memories growing up all involve Dave and the whole Ryan family whether it be spending countless hours together on the squash court, traveling for tournaments, messing in hotels all across Europe, all the while we were creating lifelong, unbreakable bonds.

It is rare to have a role model who is the same age as you but Dave was exactly that to me. He always set the bar so high on the squash court, academics and everything else in between. When Dave told me in 4th year he was doing entrance exams for US colleges I went home to look up what college squash was and set the wheels in motion for me to go on my own journey over to the states.

I am so lucky to have grown up with Dave and feel blessed to still have a strong connection with all the younger squash players coming out of Sutton LTC, all of whom constantly ask me about Dave. There is no doubt that these stories and the legend of David Ryan will live forever.

We are all better for having known David, and though he's no longer with us, his spirit will live on in every game we play and every journey we take.

Rest in peace, David. You will always be remembered, missed, and loved.
— Oisin Logan

Dear Suzanne, Eoin and Stephanie,

Please accept my deepest condolences for the loss of your beloved David. My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting him over dinner in Dublin last spring, along with our daughter Miranda, Nick Heath and beautiful Ella. Though it was just one evening, David's warmth and vibrant spirit left an indelible impression on us.

Miranda had spoken of David's kindness and remarkable character throughout their college years, and we were delighted to experience his genuine enthusiasm for life firsthand. He was gracious in sharing his Dublin recommendations with us, and -- at Miranda and Nick's urging -- generously and hilariously recounted his U.S. national squash victory. His face lit up showing us that iconic winning photo.

David was extraordinary – intelligent, truly interested in others and full of fun. His easy, open manner made it clear that he had grown up surrounded by love. Our hearts go out to your family during this time of loss.

With deepest sympathy,
— Jennifer Ryshawy
