Dave we only heard today of your passing as I texted you and Lillian kindly rang me and told me the devastating news. Many fond memories of you in John Players and drinking after our table tennis team matches or bowling or in Lowes. You were always a character and a kind gentle giant. So extremely clever too with a fantastic mind and memory and we loved hearing all your stories. You were a great friend and we are gutted you have been taken too soon. So sorry we didnt know you had passed till today. Rest in peace my friend . Thoughts and prayers to Lillian, Oisín and all the Smith family.Lots of love Dave we will miss you. Xxx♥️♥️♥️♥️

He was a large than life presence growing up around Oakwood/Cedarwood, there was always a bit of divilment and craic with Dave! I remember him in his Dubs jersey heading off to The Hill! There’s a massive hole left in the Ballymun Kickhams family Dave. Many’s a good turn you did me over the years which won’t be forgotten. Whether it was sharing your Boston network before I went out there as a student or whether it was sharing the loaves and the fishes (all Ireland final tickets), it was always done with great character and a knowing nod. You’ll be sorely missed around the club. My thoughts with Lilian, Oisín and the wider family and close friends at this sad time.

The pub experience was always more entertaining with Smithy in the building. A great character who was always good for a laugh. Taken far too soon. May he rest in peace.

Although we didn’t know each other for very long — I first met Dave during my business trip to John Player Dublin in February 2023 — he quickly became a truly valued colleague.
Despite the nearly 30-year age gap between us, Dave was a genuinely kind and witty person who generously shared his knowledge and experience. His sense of humour could always bring a smile to everyone’s face — and that’s how I’ll always remember him.
I feel truly honoured to have had the chance to know him, work alongside him, and learn from him.
I will miss him deeply. May he rest in peace.
