Dear Laura and family,

I was so very sad and shocked to hear of David's death. He was a lovely colleague dedicated to his very challenging work yet always remained cheerful somehow. He never missed an opportunity to talk about his family and it was clear that he was devoted to you all. I will miss him and our wonderful conversations and musings on the world terribly.

He was without a doubt the nicest person I have had the pleasure of working with. He had a great personality and would give you his last penny.

Dave touched the lives of many people during his time in Newfoundland. If you met him, you liked him. He brought only joy and friendship to my life and to all of us that went to university with him or played touch football. I am so sad at the news of his passing and I can't imagine the grief felt by those who loved him and knew him better. Such a great guy and such a loss.

I shared so many fun times with David in our 20s that I have an endless supply of fond memories. Long chats with Dave were a great treat over the years, be it in person, on the telephone, or via email. He has many friends over here, including several who still count Dave among their most favourite and closest, despite the years and the many miles between Canada and Ireland. We are heartbroken for you and for ourselves. The stories of his unique wit, wisdom, spirit, and personality are flowing this week and we will continue to enjoy them in times to come.

We were devastated to hear of David’s untimely passing. We got to know him well when he was in Newfoundland as such an integral part of Rory and Trish’s family. He had a great zest for life and was full of kindness and compassion. We are thinking of all of his family at this most difficult time.
