Dear Mary, I returned from holiday to the sad news of Prof. Coakley's passing. Deepest sympathies to you and all the Coakley family. I have so many fond memories of yourself and Prof from the Postgraduate Centre many years ago and more recently my chats with him in the Old Stone Building. I learned so much from this kind, caring gentleman and will miss his quick smile and sense of humour. It was a privilege to have known him.
Deepest sympathy to the Coakley Family on the death of Prof Coakley. With his support and vision I continued my career in medicine and for that I am deeply indebted.
When my own father became ill I thought of doctors with expertise and care who could help and I recalled Dr Coakley. I first met him in the 90s as a student nurse in St.James when I accompanied an elderly patient to see him. I was so impressed with his compassionate upfront honest approach. I was saddened to hear of his illness and untimely passing. A true gentleman.
Condolences to all his family

Sincere condolences to the Coakley family on this very sad news. I met Davis through his role on the Board of CARDI: Centre for Aging Research & Development in Ireland. In addition to all that he accomplished as a leader in geriatric medicine, he also was a true scholar of Irish history. After I mentioned the timing of my family's emigration, he so kindly gave me a book about the Wexford uprising. He was an exemplary leader who personified dignity and integrity.
Deepest condolences to the Coakley family. Davis was so generous with his time and always wiling to share his immense knowledge of the history of medicine. He inspired so many of us in TCD Medicine.

Heartfelt condolences to Mary and all the Coakley family on the loss of Davis (who will always be the “Prof” to me). As a former PhD student of his I was fortunate to experience his scholarship, intellect, wit and above all, deep generosity and kindness, on a personal level. Prof abides as a guiding light to all on how much can be achieved in life while maintaining a gentleness of spirit and kindness of manner. A truly wonderful soul.

Davis will be missed by all of us Blaneys. He wrote a wonderful obituary for my dad Paddy Blaney under whose spell he had to have been under. The success of the likes of Davis and others stands tribute to both my dad and his acolyte/friend. Thanks you and may he rest in peace. There'll be a reunion going on up there. Our condolences. I write this from Solomons, MD, USA and know there are a few others who wont be able to make the service "Up the road" in St Teresas.

To Mary and family
We would like to express our deepest sympathy. Davis was a kind and scholarly man who was an inspiration to so many. It’s hard to conceive of the scale of his achievements in academic medicine both within TCD and at a national and international level. He did extraordinary work in establishing geriatric medicine as a strong academic discipline in Ireland. And his legacy in terms of the history of medicine in Ireland - in partnership with Mary - is something we should all be grateful for. To all the family, our sincere condolences.
