Deeply saddened to learn of Big Dec's passing, such a lovely person, I'll always remember back in Sept 82 when big Dec came into the pub in Rhode on a monday night after Offaly had won the football all ireland, i was gobsmacked to see him, he said i thought there might be a session and there was. RIP Dec.

I was at school with Declan. I always remember a teacher asking his name one day. “Keogh” he replied. “What’s your full name” the teacher asked. “Status Keogh” Declan replied.
Had the privilege of working with him in the early 80s at Ag house.
What a character.
He was certainly my favourite rangers supporter.
Oh Dec you knew How to rise us all.!
Rest well Big man
Just heard the sad news of Big Dec’s passing. Enjoyed working with him in Beef Export Refunds & listening to his Rovers stories. A true gent.
Sincere sympathies to Declan’s sisters, wider family and friends. We all liked him immensely and fell into step with him for a chat so many times. Happy memories of early 1970s soccer in the field, Rolo toffees, Shoot magazine, eating the minty leaves of a flower plant from a garden a few doors up. In later life, many sightings in Toner’s and elsewhere around town. A local legend permanently walking down towards the KCR for a bus into town. Very sad he is gone. RIP

Dec,

You never held it against me that we ran ye out of town at a Limerick v Rovers game in the 80s, it was just a good country welcome ! Glad to have been in your very enjoyable company many a day in Toners, we were the only 2 people who understood the rules of cricket ! Rest in peace big fella, you will be sadly missed.

Our sincere condolences to the family of Big Dec. He will be sorely missed. We have many fond memories from our many years bumping into Dec in Ag House and many many Friday nights seeing Dec at Table No. 1 at Toners where Dec would entertain all with a witty turn of phrase. Fond memories. We too are Kylie fans but not at Decs level! Bumped into him at a Kylie concert at The Point back in the day. A true gent & gentle giant. Big heart. Big loss. Big Dec. ❤️
