My sincere condolences and sympathy to Roland, Una, Aoife and Leila on the death of your dad. Asides from his busy legal career he gave a lot to Trinity over the years. As a former Hon. Treasurer of the Trinity Trust I valued greatly his advice and support.
My late wife, Margaret, was his secretary for years and he used to drop by our home in Ballsbridge most evenings with tapes of his day's creativity ready for typing up and then collected the next evening. There was always time for a chat about the issues of the day.
A lovely man.

I am so sorry to hear Declan has died. Declan and Ann were good friends of my late husband Steven whom they knew since their time at university. Their friendship extended to include myself and we enjoyed visiting Declan and Ann on numerous occasions in Ireland as well as hosting them in Sussex. They were always so kind, considerate and hospitable and it is a privilege to have known them both. Such a great loss for Roland, Una, Aoife and Leila and their families to lose such exemplary parents and grandparents. My thoughts are with you all. RIP.
Thinking of you all with deepest sympathy. My encounters with Declan were usually brief, but each one left a lasting and positive impression. RIP
Shocked to here the sad news of Declan's death. As a high court judge he made judgements for the good of Ireland. The people of the Blasket Islands will not forget him, he saved their former island home from privatization.
Sincere condolences to all the family. Thinking of you all.
So sorry to hear of Judge Budd’s death. He was always very kind to me when I sat as his registrar and I enjoyed many interesting conversations with him. Sincere sympathy to his family. May he rest in peace.
I am so very sorry to hear of Judge Budd's death. He was an absolute gentleman, with a true sense of fairness and justice. He was kindness personified to this young researcher in the Law Reform Commission and subsequent practitioner appearing before him in the High Court. Every time I met him there was a warm welcome.
My condolences to Roland, Aoife, and the rest of the Budd family.
My condolences to Roland, Aoife, and the rest of the Budd family.
Our thoughts and sympathy to all the family, his children and especially to his grandson, Rory.
It was with great sadness that we heard of Declan Budd's passing. He was an outstanding person personally and professionally. I have the best of memories being in his company with my father Peter, as well as on so many social occasions in the Kildare Street & University Club. My sincerest condolences to Roland and all the family on his passing. May he rest in eternal peace. Ronan Harbison & Rachael Fionda.
Dear Una and the extended Budd family , I was very sorry to hear that Declan had died and I send my deepest sympathies and condolences to you all . The connections between the Budd and Luce families go back a long way and indeed with the Odlum connection at Magerabeg . I spent many happy and fruitful years with Ann on DUWGA and indeed with Declan on the TCD Association and Trust .
With love, Kristina Odlum

I was very sorry to hear of Judge Budd's passing. I served in the administration of the Commission when he was President for a five year term back in the day. I saw at firsthand his great humanity, generosity of spirit and humour, which shone through in all his dealings. My condolences to all his family. He now rejoins his beloved wife Ann in eternal peace, after a generous life well lived by both of them.
Sincere condolences to Una, Roland, Aoife and Leila. Have very fond early memories of fun filled days spent with Una in Rowan Park Ave, where both Declan and Ann were always so welcoming. Such a happy fun home. Love to you all during this very sad time. May Declan rest in peace.
Condolences and deepest sympathy to the Budd family on the passing of your dad A true gentlemam and a great mentor. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace
May I convey my deepest condolences to the children and family of Declan Budd. I knew of Declan as a 'star' in Trinity days - for his many activities in the Hist and Sport - and the fact that he read History and then Law! Later, at the Bar, still a star, he was the essence of a gentleman. Declan loved engaging with people and imparted so much information: after every encounter, I came away knowing so much more than I did before bumping into him. Fondly remembering Declan and his late wife Ann - both the heart of goodness. Rest in Peace.
My sincere sympathies to all the Budd family on your loss. May Declan's soul rest in eternal peace
Sincerest sympathy from Kati and myself on this sad loss. We shared many happy times together in the 1960s and have good memories of Magherabeg.
Una - I am so sorry to hear of your dear Dad's passing and just want you to know I am thinking of you at this sad, lonely time.
Great company over the years

Our sincerest condolences to Alison and Declan's family on his sad passing. Declan joined us on many field trips and meetings always sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with his friends. He will be sadly missed by us all. Rest in peace Declan.
Very sorry to hear of the passing of your dad Leila & Aoife. Regards to the whole family on your loss.
Sincere condolences to the Budd family on Declan's passing. He was a great support to the Hist when I was RecSec and Auditor back in the mid 2000's and always could be relied upon to support the student initiatives of the day. May he rest in peace.
On behalf of the College Historical Society, I'd like to extend our deepest sympathies on the passing of Mr Justice Declan Budd. Though I didn't have the privilege of knowing him personally, his legacy within the Society is immense. He gave his time and talents generously, playing a crucial role in shaping the Bicentenary celebrations of 1970, and as a Vice President of the Society - we were and still are very fortunate to have him. For students today, alumni like Declan embody what many of us aspire to when we join the Society: to serve the public good, and leave behind an enduring legacy. We remember him with pride as a brilliant legal mind, a devoted Vice President, and a guardian of the Hist’s traditions. Our thoughts are with his family and friends; I hope it's some consolation to know that his example will continue to inspire new generations of members. His loss will be deeply felt.
I am so very sorry to hear of Declan’s passing. He was a true and loyal TCD man and I enjoyed working with him and Ann. My condolences to Una and all the Budd family.
Condolences to the entire BUDD family on the sad passing of declan.
A pure gentleman,very knowledgeable man.

Declan was a true gentleman, on one occasion while he was sitting in the Victorian Courthouse in Sligo, officials from the Court Service were in the Courthouse telling us that the old Courtrooms were not in keeping with modern trends and would be ripped out and replaced with tip-up seats, we were getting no where, then I remembered Declan, I popped him to see him, told him of the situation, within minutes the officials were in his chambers, being read the riot act. That was the end of that!!!!
My condolences to Roland and all the Budd family. I am still away and very sorry to miss the funeral, Declan was a great friend and colleague. Many have mentioned his hockey prowess, but he was also a very keen squash player and we had some great tussles on court. A very loyal and very decent friend. RIP Declan
My sincere condolences on the passing of your father, Roland. May he rest in peace.

Heartfelt sympathy to all of you on Declan's passing. We were students together long ago. When my father died suddenly in June 1967, at the end of my first year in College, Declan and a friend invited me down to Brittas Bay for a day away from it all: somehow he knew that that was exactly what I needed, and I've never forgotten it. May he rest in peace.
Dear Una,
I’m so sorry to hear about your father. My thoughts are with you and your family at this time.

Sincere condolences to Roland and all of the Budd family on the sad passing of Declan. He was a most learned, fair and empathetic judge who showed genuine interest in everyone who appeared before him. He and Ann were regular participants at the Burren Law School and we enjoyed many weekends in their company which were filled with lively discussion, debate and fun. Declan will be remembered with great fondness and may he rest in peace.
We have very vivid memories of our friendship with Declan during our time at
Trinity and afterwards. He was always so full of enthusiasm and commitment for the causes about which he was passionate. Deepest sympathies to you all from us both here on Vancouver Island.

To have known Declan was a pleasure and an inspiration. He had a huge interest in people and, indeed, in virtually everything. He wore lightly his great sporting successes and his position as a High Court judge. He was a great family man. To meet Declan meant that one left feeling happier than before. In his illness and in how he bore it, he showed typical courage and lack of self pity. He has left us all a tremendous example of a life well and fully lived.
May Declan's Memory be a Blessing to his family and friends.
Declan's TCD association will be richly treasured as will his enthusiasm for and devotion to The College Historical Society {The Hist} from his time as Record Secretary (198thSession).
His was an abiding interest that continued though his life of professional distinction and achievement.
His editing with Ross Hinds of "The Hist & Edmund Burke's Club" signals the lasting strength of the Hist connection. No doubt, he welcomed written confirmation in the Guinness Book of Records that the Hist is indeed the oldest debating society in the world.
Hist members were always aware of that fact, and welcomed Guinness confirmation.
Now in our prayers of consolation , we offer thanks for Declan's generosity and richness of spirit, praying,
Peace and Eternal Rest be upon him.

My deepest sympathies to the Budd family at this very sad time. I had the privilege of working as a legal researcher at the Law Reform Commission between 2000 and 2002 when your father was President of the Commission. He was an unfailingly kind and courteous man who could always spare time for a friendly chat with a researcher, and we all appreciated the supportive and encouraging leadership he provided. My dear cousins,
one special uncle much bereaved.
I offer you the same words I sent when your dear mother died:
We can shed tears that Declan is gone, or we can smile that he has lived.
We can close our eyes and pray that he’ll come back, or we can open our eyes and see all that he has left.
Our hearts can be empty because we can’t see him, or we can be full of the love we shared.
We can turn our backs on tomorrow and live yesterday, or we can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
We can remember Declan and only that he is gone, or we can cherish his memory and let it live on.
We can cry and close our minds, be empty and turn our backs, or we can do what he would want; smile, open your eyes, love, laugh and go on.

I first met Declan in Trinity College almost sixty years ago. When I read for and was called to the Bar he was extremely generous with his time, his knowledge, and his help, and in explaining to me the legal profession's mysterious ways and practices. Declan was a good, kind, caring, and honest man and was always determined to do the right thing, but he never lost his sharp sense of humour. My deepest sympathies are with his family on their loss.
Heartfelt condolences to Roland, Rosie and the complete Budd family.
We are with you in spirit today and in the days and weeks to come as you come to terms with this loss.
Special thoughts to Ann and Fionn and their cousins who will miss their Grandfather.
May Declan Rest in Peace.

My deepest sympathy to all of the immediate and extended Budd family on the passing of Declan. He was a gentleman in the most traditional sense of the word. My lasting memories are of a man of kindness, humanity and curiosity. He gave everyone in his courtroom that most prized commodity which no-one seems to have nowadays- time, and in that time his attention never wavered. May he Rest in Peace.
