Declan, the last time we spoke we were discussing the different responses the NZ and Irish had to the pandemic. We came to the conclusion that the Irish just didn’t like to be told what to do! I have fond memories of many fun times with Declan through Caolan and Aine and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know him during their wedding preparations.

He was always so full of life, had a great sense of humour and had an infectious smile.

I was very sad to hear of his passing and have no doubt he left a lasting impression on everyone he meet.

I am deeply shocked and saddened to learn of Declan's passing. I worked with Declan in the Social Welfare in Buncrana (2011). It was here that we formed a great, long lasting friendship. In time I moved to Sydney, Australia and Declan to New Zealand - we always kept in contact. Rena agus Tommy, my heart breaks for your great, great loss. Declan will forevermore be in my thoughts and prayers.
