I am so sorry for you and your family’s loss. I have a few fond memories of Declan when I was a child and I know he was a favourite of my parents. May God carry him up high.

I was so sorry to hear of the death of your Daddy. You always talked so much about your Mammy and Daddy RIP and David RIP and your trips home to The Hook. I heard lots of lovely stories and of what a lovely man he was. I am only sorry I never got to meet him. We have been work mates and friend's for 19 years and you know my family and I know yours all the funny trips up and down the road in all weathers and you knew my crew too.

It was with great shock and sorrow that i learned of the very sad passing of Declan. Deepest sympathy to his wife Gemma to Brid Maeve and Declan his sister Anne and extended Hearne family. May Declan's memory and lifes work be an inspiration to his family in their great loss and to all who knew him. May he now rest in the peace and happiness of heaven after a life well lived with his late sons Carl and David.

I was greatly saddened to learn, only today, of Declan's passing.

Sincere condolences to you, your children and their families and to all members of the extended Hearne family on your very sad loss.

I first met Declan shortly after joining the fisheries service in March, 1977. His contribution to the well being and development of the fisheries resource particularly during periods when there were difficult and contentious issues especially in the area of salmon conservation and water pollution requiring resolution was so important. He gave distinguished service in his role as Chairman of the Southern Regional Fisheries Board and the Central Fisheries Board and was an articulate an able representative for the coastal fishing community. His depth of knowledge helped influence the formation and development of policy at the highest level, and for this he is owed a debt of gratitude.

I would very much have wished to attend Declan's funeral as a mark of respect and in recognition of his distinguished service, and am very sorry not to have been able to do so.

May Declan Rest in Eternal Peace and May His Memory Be a Blessing on You His Family.
