To Alison and Jordan. I knew him since i was 5 years old. He was a rare and true gentleman. My heart is broken to hear the news. Sorry i was away for his funeral. I will never forget his gentleness, kindness and generosity of spirit. I will miss him.

We were deeply saddened and, indeed, shocked to learn of the sudden passing of Declan. We loved his gentleness, kindness and good humour. In particular we really appreciated his wonderful skill and talent as a creator of unique once-off pieces of jewelery.

I just heard about Declan's untimely passing and wish to offer my sincere sympathy to his wife, son, mother, brothers and sisters. A gentleman through and through, last taked to him at my Mam's (Lily's) funeral. Such a sad loss. May his kind and gentle soul rest in peace.

Dear Jordan, Alison, and all the Killen family,

I was deeply saddened to hear of Declan’s passing. I first got to know him nearly 40 years ago through the Irish Times collection, and he has been a quiet, shining thread woven through the fabric of my life ever since.

Declan created jewellery for my family - for my mother and my sister — in fact, my sister got engaged in the doorway of his shop. At every significant moment in our family’s journey, there was Declan, his artistry, and his extraordinary spirit.

He was a man of profound integrity, warmth, and kindness. His creativity was unmatched — the pieces he made are not only exquisite but filled with meaning, and we treasure them dearly.

What stays with me most, though, is his enduring kindness, especially to my mum in recent times. It meant more than words can express.

His loss is immense, and I can only imagine how deeply you feel it. Please know I hold you all in my thoughts. May he rest in peace. I will always treasure my memories of him.

I had the pleasure of visiting Declan in his workshop many times with my Mum Jacinta. When I was younger it was all about the free ferrero rocher he would give me but soon it became about getting my first “good” jewellery. I remember being so impressed seeing his pieces for sale on Aer Lingus flights.

Declan was an incredible person, im am so saddened to hear of his passing. Declan was the only person who i trusted to resize my engagement ring and from the day we met i never passed fade street without popping in for a visit. Declan was such a lovely, kind soul and we loved to visit him on each visit to Dublin over the years. He always made time to catch up with some memorable conversations, outside of the usual family updates, about the Queen's brooch, posting our wedding rings to England, all things music or how best to get rid of rats!! We always left his studio feeling uplifted and that was down to his infectious outlook on life. We will miss him very much and are truly sorry we could not be at his service to say goodbye today.

I met Declan last year, thanks to Vonna, and he struck me immediately for his kind eyes, gentle smile, caring nature. His craft was unparalleled. He was the only goldsmith who I could trust to design, create and mount my memorial diamond ring, from my late Aidan's ashes. It is an incredible ring, and the way he went about it, the numerous design meetings we had until he was positive he would be designing the perfect setting, the gentleness with which he treated me always, has been incredible. I bought more jewelry of his design, for my sister and for my niece. I trusted him to repair timeless jewelry from my grandmother. My family and I will always wear and treasure his pieces, mine undoubtedly will remain part of my life forever.
Dear family, I don't know you, but trust me when I tell you I do know and feel how devastated you are. I am so very sorry for Declan and I'm so very sorry for you all.
When you'll take a flight, you'll go above the clouds: look above and smile inside, tenderly returning his sweet smile to you, that is where he is now.
Like his craft, with his spirit transcending the ordinary.
