Not a day has passed since Declan’s passing that I haven’t paused & given thanks for his friendship. I hope the continued love & support of those around you all offer you some solace. May Declan rest in peace.

I was very sorry to hear about the death of Declan Mc Daid

Declan was a great man with great vision. He believed in people and gave them space to grow. He is the reason why I am doing what I am doing today. Kylemore College has a thriving music department because of Declan and the actions he took almost 20 years ago. That's a legacy to be proud of. Thinking of you Catherine, Cathy and Dec in your time of need.

Really sorry to hear of the passing of
Mr. McDaid. I have many memories of my time at Kylemore College, and I owe him a great debt of gratitude. He saved my bacon more times than I can count, and I know I probably wouldn't have made it through school without his support. I'll always remember him and those canoeing trips with Dire Straits blasting from the speakers in the van. Rest easy now, thanks for always keeping our best interests at heart.

My condolences to the McDaid family. Mr McDaid as I knew him, was the principal of Kylemore College when I was there. I remember him chuckling and shaking his head when I turned up one morning with bright blue hair.

I am sorry to hear of Declan‘s death even though our paths have not crossed for such a long time. I enjoyed his company at the lunchtime table in Coláiste Eoin 50 years ago, where we often debated the issues of the day. We also had a couple of guitar/piano jam sessions together, which I remember with fondness. I would like to sympathise with Catherine and their son and daughter on their loss.

He always spoke so proudly of you all and the progress that each of you were making in your particular professions. I knew him best as Principal of Kylemore College, which was always a pleasure to visit. I would particularly like to say how much I enjoyed working with him. No matter what our different views might have been we always departed amicably. He was someone whose advice I would listen to carefully and I always knew that if I needed advice or support he was always available. It was a real pleasure to know him and to work with him. I will always remember his VW Beetle and his love for all things mechanical, and his love of outdoors pursuits, particularly canoeing.

I had the privilege of meeting Declan in 2012 when we both joined the Board of the IMNDA, a role we shared for many years.

Working alongside him was always insightful — he brought wisdom and experience to every conversation and showed a sincere interest in understanding and supporting the IMNDA community.

As Chair, he led with empathy, kindness, and compassion.

Declan was a proud husband, father, and grandfather. His stories were always a joy to hear, often shared with a glint of mischief.

Dear Catherine, words cannot express how saddened I am to hear of your beloved Declan's passing. My deepest , sincerest and heartfelt condolences to you, your daughter Catherine, your son Declan, your grandchildren and all the extended McDaid family.
I have only the fondest memories of Declan. Those memories go back to the late sixties when he and my late husband Alex began their VEC teaching careers in Colaiste Eoin in Finglas West. They became and remained very close friends and colleagues. And, being the great educators that they were, both rose to the ranks of senior college principals within the CDVEC. In those roles they continued to make major contributions to the world of education and curriculum development and were always a great support for each other.
We met on many social occasions. Declan had a wonderful sense of humour and had a laugh that was infectious. On all those occasions he could never hide his amazing devotion to you and your children. He was so proud of you.
I know that you have many very happy memories. With time the pain of loss eases but those precious memories never fade away.
