I worked with Declan in Traffic on the bikes in the mid 80s and he was a great character to be with always a gentleman and never had a harsh word to say about anyone .

I was saddened to hear the news about Declan.
I have such fond memories of Declan refereeing basketball for Special Olympics and Navan Arch club and the kindness he showed to everyone involved.
When I was a student teacher on placement a few years back I was really struggling and I remember going to an event in Navan where Declan was refereeing. When I entered the hall it was like he knew I was struggling and he gave me a big hug and told me that I’d get through it and to keep going.
I will be forever grateful for this encouragment during this time as I enter my classroom each day.
Declan was a special person and will be remembered by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

I am very sad to hear of Declan's passing. I have known him since he was five years old. I met him when I went to work for the Nannery family. As a child and through his adult life he was a polite, caring and intelligent person and I will miss seeing him and his family when I visit home.

Unfortunately I couldn’t attend Declan’s funeral today, but I just watched a lovely service for this great, giving man. Knowing Declan meant so much to our family, and we will always be grateful to him for introducing us to the basketball world.
