Deinice, I wouldn’t have achieved my degrees without your constant support, patience, and belief in me. You were more than just a tutor — you were a true mentor and a friend. You picked me up during some of my lowest moments and helped me find balance when life felt overwhelming. I’ll always be grateful for your guidance, kindness, and the way you genuinely cared. You made such a lasting impact on my life, and I’ll never forget you my dear friend xxx

On behalf of everyone at the Hugh Baird University Centre, I just wanted to say how beautiful the funeral service was today. Both staff and students, past and present, watched the live stream and we both laughed and cried and had huge admiration for Deinice’s family.
We all miss you so much Deinice, the UC isn’t the same without you. Rest in peace and know how much you were loved by us all ❤️

I am so deeply sorry for the sudden loss of Deinice. She was the kind of person whose warmth stayed with you long after she left the room—always ready with patience, a steady word of encouragement, and the generous gift of her time. She believed in every pupil she met and quietly helped them find their confidence; the small acts she gave so freely—an extra explanation, a comforting smile, an encouraging push—made a world of difference to so many of us.
Her gentle heart and thoughtful care touched every life she encountered, and the memory of her laughter, her kindness, and the way she made people feel seen will stay with us always. We will miss her more than words can hold, but take comfort in knowing her spirit lives on, watching over us like a bright, loving angel in the sky.

Dee you taught me for 4 years, telling me that I can do my masters. You have been my inspiration throughout uni and encouraged me to push myself. I gutted I wont get to see you in march for graduation to thank you for pushing me to successes I will miss you so much and never forget the beautiful person you was. And you could tolerate my loudness and treated me like everyone else, always reminded me to stop pulling myself down. Dee I will never forget you love tracy xxx

Gone from our lives but always in our hearts.

I first met Deinice as a sixteen-year-old in 1988. Deinice was a barmaid, I was a glass collector.

From the very first instance, Deinice had my back, seeing my innocence and greenness and helped me to manage it and become more confident.

As we became closer as friends, becoming great friends very quickly, Deinice began to coax out of me what I was good at, how I could nurture it, thrusting books at me, pointing me towards avenues she knew I could pursue when I didn't or couldn't. No one had ever done that to me before. No one had ever had faith like what Deinice had in me. I was far from the only one, Deinice had an expert antenna for curious people, those a bit lost and did all she could to position and situate them.

Deinice put me on a path I am still on, questioning, wondering, wandering, getting there slowly, but surely. I cannot fathom how you are not here, but I will always have you within me as that eternal guide, Deinice.

Deinice was also an amazing social energy, corralling, cajoling and chastising (gently, when necessary) in the name of living.

You took me under your wing when I got my position. You are just an amazing soul who would do anything for anyone. I loved the fact we supported each other all the way especially with top up what am I going to do without my board buddy. Deinice was such a kind, caring, and wonderfully unique soul. She poured her heart and energy into her work and her students, always going out of her way to make everyone feel welcomed, supported, and truly seen.

She went above and beyond for me personally, and I’ll always remember how fiercely she stood in my corner, especially through the tougher times. Her encouragement, warmth, and belief in me meant more than she probably ever knew, and I’m deeply grateful for that.

I was heartbroken to hear of her sudden passing. She will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
